Default Ranch Pond...Help

I have a pond at my ranch, about 125ft diameter, 8ft deep at the deepest. I am thinking of making a deeper center in the middle of the already existing pond; making it about a 50ft diameter, and about 5ft deeper. I am going to cover the smaller circle in the pond with visqueen (black tarp) so that the soil will not absorb the water. The larger portion of the pond will have water in it when it rains or when its not too hot(water evaporates). The creek feeding my pond is about 3ft deep and I am planning to widen the mouth to about 20ft. All in all, the pond will look like a giant pear! Any suggestions on how to maintain, preserve, and stock the pond with some bass, catfish, blugll, and crappie?

Thanks, Please ask me if My statement was not clear.

Stockoing wise, you should be able to do that through your state DNR. Call and ask if they have a stocking program where you can buy fish.

Stevo, contact TPW and ask them. They can point you in the right direction. Sounds like a nice little fishing hole when you get it all finished.

Good luck, stevo. Texas can always use a new tank or two to grow the next world record in. If you don't already know, Ray Scott (BASS founder) has some great resources on building and maintaining quality fisheries. Again, good luck.

We were going to have a pond in front of the house, but the people from the "pond management system" advised that it would be muddy in the winter and dry in the summer. This was of couse due to the creek feeding the pond.
Unless I had appx. $2000.00 bucks worth of dirt brought in, or I could cement the bottum ! Oh well, the house got built and theres no pond.
