Where to hook a frog?

I posted this question in a thread in the Fishing Reports area but I figured I should post it here where it belongs.

Where would you suggest hooking a live frog so that it doesn't die too quickly? I get hundreds of small green tree frogs around my house and sometimes on my windows after a good rain. I am thinking about catching a couple and keeping them in an aquarium until I go fishing the following weekend. Should I hook them through the muscle of one of the hind legs to make them look injured? Or should I hook them just behind the lips like you would a minnow?

And what about skinks or lizards (anoles)? I get a lot of skinks and anoles at my house as well. How do you hook a live skink or anole?

It was just posted on another thread to hook the frog at the front lips, and some preferred to hook in a rear thigh.

Do make sure you check your live bait laws before doing either though. Could get you in some serious trouble.

For those who do not know or can't find it in the laws, I just confirmed with Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division
Law Enforcement that it is legal to fish with live frogs and lizards in the state of Alabama.

Why would you want to drown a lizard to catch a fish? Just use a Zoom lizard. Probably get more action out of a Zoom lizard than a dead one. Dead lizards tails and legs don't flutter.

I guess for the same reason you would kill a minnow or small fish just to catch a large bass.

I likely won't use a live lizard since my duaghter likes catching and playing with them. But the skinks are a pain in the rear and get into the garage and house. My wife and daughter hate the skinks. I would more than likely use the skinks since they can swim very well and they won't be missed by the wife and daughter.

I've used live frogs and I find hooking them through the thigh works best. They swim naturally despite being hooked there, and actually look more natural than through the lips. Hooked through the lips, the frog spends time pawing at the hook and swims oddly.

What size hook do you use? And I am assuming that you put it hook side up?
