If you have a fish blow up on a buzzbait, throw a follow up lure to the spot where the blow up occured. Use a weightless worm or something similar.
Inline spinners can be use similarly as spinnebaits, except youll want to use them in more open water due to the treble hooks |

The blow up and miss isn't uncommon on a buzzbait. Just get you some trailer hooks and put one on the buzzbait. That will eliminate missing those short strikes.

As bassbooger said missed strikes aren't uncommon while fishing a buzz bait. There are a few things you can do to hook those short striking fish. First add a trailor hook. You can also shorten the skirt to the length of the hook. Or as nb said use a follow up bait. Have a fluke, weightless worm, or a tube tied on to another rod. When a missed strike occurs throw your lure into the blow up rings. This usually results in an immediate second strike.

What lockjaw said. Also, don't set the hook until you feel the fish-otherwise, all you will be doing is pulling the bait away from the fish. I they blow up and miss it keep a steady retrieve and it may come back and blast it.

I have had that happen way to many times. I set the hook immediatley, which pulled the bait from the fish. I would suggest trailer hooks, but I dont use them, because I use the small size 1/8 oz. Now, I know to feel the weight of the fish.

in the past i had ALL fish miss buzz baits and it was frustrating. after adding a treble as a trailer i have few misses. as a matter of fact the treble is the primary hook that they get hooked on.

Don't be afraid to just cast a few times after a blowup, I have seen many times where you make repeated casts up to 8 or 9 times and they come back .
A blow up usually means they missed it, if they havent got a good look at it or havent felt the hook try again. I had one miss Wed. night and thought for sure a follow up worm would get her to bite, but no luck, but about 1/2 hour later got 2 on the spook, about 15 ft from the blowup. |

dont try to set the hook with a buzz bait, the fish will set the hook for you.
