I got there around 1 and stayed a few hours longer than I should have. I played with the float-n-fly but couldn't get bit. Thought I had something once but it was set too deep and hit a weed. I then went back to jerkbaits and caught a stinkin' 10 pound carp on a Pointer 100. Only fish of the day. I though I was crazy for being out, until I saw some guy in a kayak (6th pic):

Andy, The water was still at 45. I should have tried a few other things but my gloves got wet and my hands cold so instead of retieing I just used what I had out.
Ken, Thanks! I dressed warm and didn't really get cold except my fingers. I'm hoping to get out a few more times too, but after today I'm not sure. The fish usually still bite, but they are just really hard to find. I could not find them today and with the weather some of the good spots were not possible. |

bender that is awesome! man it looks like a crappy day for fishing which around here usually means a pretty good day for catching. dude i can't get over that guy in the kayak, i mean look at how hard that wind is blowing. on the other hand he was probably working hard enough that he was warm.

Just make sure you keep a dry change of clothes, and a portable propane heater for emergencies.
I had to find out the hard way about the dry change of clothes. Dont need a heater too much in South ARkansas as long as your dry!! |

I know that it is a little more dangerous since it would be easier to fall out of the boat so I kept my PFD on all the time even though most of that lake is 3-6' deep. I appreciate the concern though. Heck, I haven't even got my insulated bibs out yet, ain't THAT cold.
![]() I had a portable propane heater out for a while to dry out my gloves, but the wind kept blowing it out. And I do carry spare clothes just in case... I was much more worried on Friday a mile from shore on Erie in the rain going 60-70? MPH. My Fish Hedz mask totally fogged up and I couldn't see anything, luckily I was just a passenger in my buddy's boat. My first ride in a single console, makes me appreciate a dual in bad weather for the rider. |

I second the extra change of clothes in the car. I also keep several towels in waterproof container in the boat to keep your hands dried off.
Its not a good idea to fish alone.I was saved from drowning by a nearby boat a few years back. The water temp was 34 degrees.I consider myself to be a very good swimmer, but cold water and the muliple layers of clothing rendered me pretty much helpless on my own. ![]() |
