Hey guys, i was just wondering what your thoughts were on this combo for overall Jig fishing, plastics, and frog combo. It is a 7'0" MH Fenwick Eagle GT Rod (Fishes more like a Heavy Action), A Cabela's Prodigy Reel and 30 lb. Bass Pro Braid. I will be fishing somewhat clear water so i was keeping that in mind with the 30 lb. braid.

Ryan The only thing I see that 30 lb braid will not cut through the thick jungle like 50 lb braid will.Don't ask me why, you would think a thinner line would cut through easier but I have found quite the opposite to be true.If your froggin' and doing the jiggy in thick weeds, it might be worth going to 50 lb braid, if not 30 lb should work fine.
I thought Fenwick made the Eagle GT rod ? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

In the weeds straight braid is fine. I always use 50 lb braid for jigging and 30 lb braid on the rest of my baitcasters. In clearer water or along weed edges or on top of structure, I use a mono leader from 12-17lb test. As for plastics from unweighted to a 3/8 oz bullet wt I use a spinning setup with 10 lb braid and a 10 lb mono leader. For big worms and creature baits with a 1/2 bullet wt it's with a baitcaster spooled with 30lb braid and a 12 lb mono leader.

With sparse cover I would go 15 - 20lb fluorocarbon. Heavy cover 30-50lb braid but thats just me .

the eagle gt rods do have a bit more back bone-being stiffer- than the same rated hmx, hmg, techna rods do..
