Of course, and to no one's surprise, I'm pleased by "my boy" Sam Bradford's triumph over two equally worthy colleagues last night in NYC so well as the fact that OU now has produced five Heisman winners. But that is not what motivates this post.
As I awaited the announcement of the winner's name, I had a feeling that no matter who walked away with the trophy all three of these young men were GOOD guys and represented college athletics, football in particular, and their respective schools in the best manner possible. I had thought that perhaps the voters would select Colt McCoy, and that would have been acceptable save for the fact that some might have considered that to be some sort of consolation prize and driven by Mack Brown's whining about the outcome of the Big 12 South Division race. Had Tim Tebow won, some might have thought it to be some sort of hangover from his triumph last year or another slap in OU's face motivated by the obvious anti-Sooner bias evidenced by much of the media. Just reflect on ESPN and their increasing dumbA55 talking heads, most notably Kirk Herbstreit, who even refuses to pronounce OU's great tight end's name correctly...It's "GrEsham", you putz, NOT "GrIsham"...even though Mushburger tried to set the correct example for him during the OSU and MU victories. All that said; Three fine young men met last night, awaited the outcome together, embraced once the decision was made known, and left as a trio of friends. THAT was the real victory. There were THREE winners. L6 PS To The Pirate in Lubbock: Sorry Mikey, but Graham Harrell and Mikey Crabtree were exposed in a certain game. Don't waste our time with rants. And let us speak no more of Chase Daniel, Coach Periwinkle. PS To God: PLEEZ! Don't let Sam turn pro until he's played at least eight seasons in Norman! ![]() |
