Default Fishing in Baghdad

I know that with the economy, most of us will not have the opportunity to bid on this, but I thought I would pass it on anyways. This site is dedicated to the troops who are trying to find some time to fish in the gulf.

Their on-line store won't inspire the bait monkey, but the photos are rather motiviating to see these guys find some time to do what we all love while trying to also stay alive.

That's cool. I have some pics my old man took, (pause to say Dang I miss him), of some of his shipmates fishing off the tanker he was on in WWII. Just goes to show ya, no matter what the situation, if ya get the itch to fish, ya just got to fish.

I am sure that The Doc can confirm this.
Edible is relative to a guy or gal forward deployed.

this is cool! I am going to send to everyone I know even those that do not fish. I am also going to send to local tack shops and even BPS suggestion box. I have no idea why I have not heard of this before!! Maybe as a site we should collect stuff to send them and tell all our fishing buddies to buy stuff from them!!

The asp looks very similar to a snook. Hey that would be cool, we have enough members to get them a serious start.

Looking at the website, it is run by a guy named Joel out of spring valley CA. That location is about 25 miles from my house. If we decide to do something, I can hand deliver it to Joel for shipment. I believe they would do like they did with their last donation from the Missiouri River Fly Fishers and post the gear as a picture and also add Bassfishin as a sponsor.

Per their website, this is the list of things that they are always in need of.

Fly Fishing Equipment

Fly Rods/Reels - The best rod to use where they are fishing is an 8 1/2 ft 7wt with a weight forward line.
Lighter rods work well too.
Tapered Leaders - 7 1/2 - 9 ft, tippets 0x-4x
Leader Material Spools 0x-4x
Olive Wooly Buggers Sizes 4-10 (with and without beadchain eyes)
Black Wooly Buggers Sizes 4-10 (with and without beadchain eyes)
Silver Marabou Minnows Sizes 4-10
Dragon Fly Nymphs Sizes 6-10
Fresh Water Shrimp Sizes 8-10
Fly Boxes

Spin Fishing Equipment

Spinning rods/reels (medium action 8-12lb test line)
Small Tackle Boxes
1/2 to 1 oz sinkers
Snelled bait hooks - Sizes 1-6
Small Snap Swivels
Leader material - 8-14lb test
Small Spinners - (Mepps, Panther Martin, etc.)
Small Silver Spoons - (1/4-3/8 oz) (Cast Master, Lil' Cleo, Thomas Lure)

I am not trying to solicit anyone to give anything, but will take point on this if anyone wants to. I plan to take a donation of something to them on 1 March. This will give anyone who is interested ample time to contribute. Let me know what you guys think.

I know times are tough all around and understand if factors prohibit your ablility to make a donation. In those cases, please keep them in your thoughts and if it applies. Your prayers as well.

I will write the site administrator and ask about the gear that needs some TLC. I would assume that they receive older gear on a regular basis and then if nothing else use them for parts.

The ASP looks like a Snook & LM Bass that has been cross bred. I bet they've got allot of fight in them.

Cass need to get in touch with Kevin and see if he can put on main message board or a sticky. There is a tread about how every one is culling boxes. This is a great cause for us.
