So I have 5 jigs now and I have no idea what each one's weight is. How do I go about weighing these and then how do you keep track of your jigs by weight (given that you don't have a seperate box for each weight.

with just 5 it should be easy to tell the difference by feel. after ya get a few more (i am working on this too), it would be smart to get a seperate box for the different weights. i will.

I can remember what most of mine are, or tell by looking at them. Besides ones smaller one, all mine are 3/8 and 1/2 though. It's hard to get an accurate weight with a scale or such, because you have to take the weight of all the components into consideration.

Also, if you don't want to get a different box, get one with different sections, and make the smallest jigs on the left, and get bigger as you go right.

i can just about look at em and tell ya,but here is my system i use.may not work for everybody but the liitle label maker gets used all the time,i use it to label all my tackle,it works great for marking rods with what line is on em,and can be had at wal mart for less than 20 dollars.i would show my crankbait boxes but they at garage in the boat,i have just had these at home redoing em.

Hey man, that's a good idea. I might try that with some of my boxes. Especially with things like tube jigs, shakey head jigs, etc that don't fit in my Falcon Terminal Tackle ox.

I use the same system as KY southern, and use a label maker to label the boxes, on the outside so i know what is in that box, but as far as jig weight, i can tell just by looking at them. With jigs i also do something like BB144 says to do, small on one side and work your way up in weight.

i keep different sizes in different boxes and i also have different boxes for different head styles. it makes it a whole lot faster to find what you are after when they are all seperate.

Ditto!
Seriously, I don't think the bass care that much. I use the size that is easiest for me pitch on a given day and control the rate of fall by using bulkier skirts and trailers. If the bass want a finesse presentation then I will rig up on a spinning rig and give them the 1/8 oz and 1/4 oz stuff, but normally I will go to the tubes, shakey heads or drop shots for the lighter stuff. There comes a time when you can go overboard with the scientific approach. ![]()
