Default Cleaning out the computer

Since we've been talking about computers and such, I had another question, not dealing with viruses.

Our new computer came with a lot of things on it with free demos of line 3 months or whatever. Unfortunately, I didn't look into any of them until they were all up. A couple things uncluded Corel [sp?] photoshop and Corel Painter. Now, I know form using these in digital art classes at school, that these programs take quite a bit of space. (are a very expensive).

To renew them is like 80 bucks a month! (I think)

So, Is it ok for me to go ahead and delete these things if I'm never going to use them. I've got a friend trying to get me Adobe Photoshop CS4, so I won't be needing the other one.

are these just like any program I'd install, I and can I delete them the same way?

Thanks,
BB
I'm TI, not an IT. (technologically impaired)

If you don't use them, there's no sense in keeping them. Just go to the control panel, click "Add/Remove Programs" and delete them.

Yes you can have it removed if you are that committed not to use it at all. To uninstall it, go to control panel > add/remove.

Yes there are a program that are similar to Photoshop. Photoshop is quiet expensive but I use a free program which is GIMP. http://www.gimp.org/

burn those programs on a disk if you think you'll need them later, then delete unwanted programs that take up space

First thing I do when I recieve a new pc, be it for work, customer, or home. Is to wipe the drive and re-load windows from the installation disk.

Dell, compaq, gateway(lol), toshiba, (insert computer company here) are notorious for packing a pc full of free trial crap a user will never need or use. AOL this and that, etc...

The bad part is you cant even order one without all this crap on it, its standard

I do the same Doc, but I am pretty sure you and I have the media sitting around. For anyone else, you got the required CD key on the computer, but a lot of vendors won't send the CD's anymore.

Go ahead and delete everything you don't want using Add/Remove Programs. If you haven't downloaded CCleaner, do so. Then run it. It will find all the leftover files and registry entries that weren't removed from your Registry. Someone also posted the URL for Revo, another excellent registry cleaner that I downloaded and used. Found a few more entries. You should also check your hard drive for left directories. C:/Program Files/ then just scroll down as they run alphabetically. If you find a folder that you already deleted the program, then go ahead and delete the folder.

Just about every program is down loadable over internet. I can't remember the last time I actually went to a store and purchased one over the counter. Besides not having the hassle of actually having to go to a store. Downloading over the internet just about always gives you a trial period to see if you really like the program, rather then once you buy it in a store, you own it period.

after you remove the unwanted programs defrag the hard drive so the computerwill not spend time looking over the spaces that are now empty, left by the deleted programs

I'm thinking about finally replacing my 5 year old desktop with a laptop come this spring/summer when prices should really be rock bottom. I Know that I can download just about any program and burn it to a CD to get a hard copy. And with the Keys supplied I shouldn't have any real problems that a update won't correct. But I've never tried to download any version of Windows, and that issue does concern me.

When You order your new pc just make sure you tell them to include your windows software disk. If you ask for it they will include it, with product key on the back.
