your best bet would be to get a good quality on board charger. 3 banks with 15 amps per bank would work really well.

i wouldn't do it if it were mine. i will leave this up to some of the guys on here that deal with saltwater because being from missouri i don't see much salt other than in a margirita now and then.

Saltwater isn't a problem for the outboard. Flush it and it will be fine. The problem is the trailer. If the trailer isn't galvanized-mine isn't-the salt water will rust it out in nothing flat. It can also ruin the trolling motor if it is not a saltwater model-those are usually white as opposed to black freshwater models.
As to the original question, an onboard charger is the way to go IMO. Plug it in when you get home from the lake and unplug it when you head out-set it and forget it. The onboard chargers are designed to fully charge then maintain the batteries. One tip: Mount the charger where it has access to the air-some models get very hot when charging and you don't want them in an enclosed space. I have mine in the rear compartment and leave the hatch open when it is charging.

yeah the main problem is the trailer.... one dip and it will be rusted... also you make sure you watch EVERYTHING on the boat

not true...depends on your trailer..........if you have a close box tube steel trailer it will rust out faster.... a "C" channel trailer will ressit rust better..........a box tube gal trailer will ressist rust even longer

bassackwards. I run both my boats in salt and fresh water. The most important thing is hit a car wash as soon as you leave the marina, then when you get home flush with fresh water. BTW love the name HaHa

if you live in a rural area find someone with a hand crank or find some kind of siphon mechanism

PHOTOG,
You "pups" just grew up in the silver spoon "Hind Tit" era. You never had to siphon gas from the neighbors car to have enough gas to take your girlfriend out on saturday night!!! Just go buy about 10 ft. of 3/8 or 1/2 inch clear plastic tubing at your local hardware store, poke one end as far as it will go into your gas tank and suck on the other end until you see the gas coming down the tube. Make sure you have a gas can of some type handy and poke the end of the tube into the can to catch the gas that is running out. Make sure the ctch can is lower than your boat gas tank, or it will not keep running out. You have to be fast, unless you like the taste of gas! (I never learned to acquire a taste for it, no matter how much I got in my mouth) You can add a little Sta-Bil to this gas and use it in your lawn mower. JackL

Amen Jackl, when I growing up we called that our W.VA. credit card. we siphoned gas from somebody's car every weekend and gas was only about .25 a gallon.
