what causes the inside of a basses mouth to become red?

no on a fish I caught today the lips and the throat were all bright cherry red. I didn't have a camera with me so I don't have any photos

It probably just got through eating a huge perch.Good question,it happens on alot i catch but usually the bigger ones.

I think it means they were foraging near the bottom eating craws and what not. There is also a theory about the gripper teeth on a basses lip, but im not quite sure what it is? Someone on here should know.

Its a sign that they are pushing rocks and sand around to create a bed, note the same red sores on the tail during pre spawn
