With muddy water I always use traps. If they are on the beds, I would recommend a big jig w/ a fat trailer. Can't go wrong with big single blade spinner in white or white/chart. Also a lightly weighted tiki stick drug on the bottom.

If you think they are starting to get on the beds then a large creature type bait like a brushhawg or lizzard might be a good bet. If it is real muddy, then you would have some problems getting and staying on the beds. If they are in prespawn mode, then I like to go with a jerk/suspension minnow. Jerk like crazy and give it a good long (5 second pause) A lot of times it will hover right in their faces enough to piss em off.
That being said, I don't usually expect to see them on the beds till the water is reaching a consistant 60 and then the first full moon. Of course, that could just be the hollywood bass....lol

Water in the 50's and cloudy go with crawdad colors, I don't think bluegill will be shallow yet, they spawn warmer then bass if I'm not mistaken.

White tandemn colorado with white painted blades. I always throw it on G'ville.
There seems to be a phenomena with the grass on that lake, you will see it grow from 3feet out from the bank to 12 feet out -or give or take - but that area right up at the bank is sometimes devoid of grass. Means the fish could be back in there spawning. Last year at the gettogether when we were at BB Comer I noticed that this was happening with some of the grass by the laydown pads that we all fished - if you will remember I went in real close to shore at one point while you guys were further out. Dont know how them dropping the lake down 2 feet will affect it, but I would give it a look.

I think I'm to late but I'll put one in the hat.
If you do use a jig than you should probably use one with rattles. If you do find beds, than check our Mr.photo's thread, a lot of great tips for beds, it's called jiggin it. My go to for that would be a golden 3/8oz chartreuse Oklahoma, or Indiana blade, slow roll it, and drop it for about 5 seconds, every 20. The blades will keep humming sine the bait will be falling. Also try using a thick skirt, something that's big in profile since the water is muddy. I'm probably a little off, 50* is a drop in temp in south fl, and a rise in temp for y'all. Good luck to ya, and bring back pics! ![]()

All the above sounds good. I'd just mention a shallow diving square billed crankbait worked slowly around laydowns and such in shallow coves. Work the crank right through the branches letting it bounce off the branches. You can get huge strikes. Just be sure to work it slowly.

No JB, no certain brand. I first learned to love the combo with a homeade spinnerbait a friend of mine made - since then I have modded everything from booyahs to terminators to walmarts with the double white blades. Sometimes I also use 1 colorado 1 indiana. Really like it if the water has stain, chop or milfoil. But I will throw it in clear water just cause I have confidence in it.
White blades are a secret thats getting out, I was in BPS the other day and was distressed to see that they are starting to be produced and marketed.

No prob, if people are going to find out about it anyways I would want you to know first.
Bama, another thing - this isnt season specific but lately I've been having these wonderful dreams at night - They start with me putting in at BB Comer then heading up towards Bellfonte. In the boat I have a pack of the new zoom Mag flukes. I find a grass flat on the main channel, you know well how many they are, and I procede to cast the big flukes down the hyrdrilla lines darting in and out of holes. And big bass start nailing the lure, I'm talking 13 and 14 pounders. I then realize I am naked and standing on the middle of the football feild during a HHS-Bob Jones football game, but an icecream truck stops by and gives me a a bass flavored eskimo pie. I've thought about it a lot, this reoccuring dream, and I think it means that I should drive to G'ville in the near future when the grass gets close to topping out and give it a try.Perhaps you should give it a try too. I have specialists working on trying to decode the 2nd part of the dream, not sure I should have posted that part...but at the very least I dont think I'm currently a danger to others.

hahahahahaha, thanks gang for the responses. i went this morning. overcast and very windy, 30 mph gusts. the wind was SUPPOSED to be 10-15. so much for weather forcasters huh? anyway we went in at bb comer. i had a white with chartruse and white skirt spinner, a jig with craw trailer (said i was committed to learning didn't i?) a baby bass trap, a white fluke. this is all i used, ok? we went across from the launch point into the main channel, crossed it to the north side of the river. there is this man made channel there (wtl knows of this one, as does anyone who has crossed the bridge), lisa started flinging her chrome trap, and i slung the spinner. wind was BRUTAL i tell ya. nothing, absolutly nothing. we drifted up into the little channel, i used the jig in ther as well as the spinner and fluke. lisa tried a 6 inch worm, missed one she said. i saw it move and she didn't set the hook right, and i again told her how to set it. not another bite on da worm though. so after about 3 hours of no bites, lisa decides to go and meet her parents at the Unclaimed Baggage store for a bit. i fish alone now. i went under the bridge near the launch site, north end, RIGHT under the bridge using the spinner. i am using the stop and go technique wareagle used on his personal best catch recently. i cast against the wind right beside a piling.....DANGIT....BACKLASH. so i am letting it sit there as i get the lash out of the reel. when i get it straightened out i start to retrieve it, stop and go but as i start to wind it i lift up a little to see if it is caught in the grass....WHAM, i get hit hard. set the hook, nnnnniiiiccceeeeeeee, it gives me a great little fight, but it is only a 12 incher bass, male at that. his mouth is all red from helping build a home for the sweetie. so i take out the hook, snap a pic, say thank you sir and let him go back. i am trying to upload the pics, but think my putor is messed up and i am gonna have to redo the download disc IF i can find the dam thang, lol. lisa comes back to the dock, we load up again and head to jones cove and procede to not get another largemough, lisa DOES catch a little convict with her trap though. all in all i feel good now, i finally caught a bass to start the year off. it IS gonna get better now i believe. the water temp dropped from near 60 to 51. but the warm front is good see for a change, even if it was windy as all get out.
i don't really think i should post this under reports kevin, not a good enough day to do so in my opion. that ok? hope so. so there ya go gang, listen to zooker, wtl and a few others and you'll catch fish when you are in doubt as to what to use and where to start. it works. thanks zooker for the tip on the spinner pal. it was the one that got the job done. oh yea, almost forgot, the bass was in 1.4 feet of water. eveyone else out there was fishing in 5 feet or deeper. didn't see anyone else catch a THING while i was there at the bridge or in jones cove. got a call from gville pal, he caught 3 for a tatol weight of 5 pounds in a tourny, he did better than me. congrats buddy.
