Going to a new pond... Any Tips
I am going to fish a new pond pretty soon, water clarity is medium, air temp around 82. Pond is always calm, as in no ripples. Any tips? Thanks. No cover, just open water. The owner said it has a lot of bluegill, bass, channel cats, and carp. Any tips for the bass? What colors would be best?

Re: Going to a new pond... Any Tips
Personally I would try tiki sticks and weightless worms.
I also be willing to bet since there are bluegill in the pond that would be there primary forage, and I would use something that had the color pattern. |

I like a purple worm with a firetail during the day...
In the morning or evening, I would throw a small white buzzbait. |

There is no best!!! But my color choice for me is Green Pumpkin with Green Purple Flake or Watermelon Red/ Flake. But these produce for me, they may not for you. It all depend on the water clarity, the area your located, and WHAT THE FISH TELL YOU.

Thanks everyone, I read the tips will have to try some... I tend to fish in lakes with very dark water.... Anything green/perch colored works pretty well here so I fish with my green bay packer colored bait !! .. or chartruse....

Re: Going to a new pond... Any Tips
rrw, I'd try a C-rig-with no cover that will allow you to cover the water and can stir up the bottom like a crawfish.
Colors-I use this approach: Clear water-natural colors Stained water-natural colors and add a little bright like chartreuse. muddy water-bright colors if it is sunny, darker colors when it is cloudy/low light. As you can see, there are a number of variables involved, which is why there is no "best" color. |

Re: Going to a new pond... Any Tips
My personal favorite lure for pond bass is a 7.5in red shad culprit t-rigged. Try a carolina rig as well and feel along the bottom for any dropoffs or ledges and then fish along those. If you can find a grassline somewhere in deeper water, tick a crank through the top of the grass.
