Guys,
got an odd question...there is a state park here in Pa. that is popular and i am fishing from the shoreline unfortunately no boat yet ![]() so it appears some of the shoreline has gravel and rocks as far as i can see with my glasses say 5 feet out..i was throwing fball jigs..my question is how would you guys know if the gravel/pebbles/rocks extended further out or if it turned to grass etc..? i know this question might sound goofy..but for example you can walk maybe 20 yrds in either direction and it is primarily a grassy/mossy area..in this case would you ditch the fball jigs and toss A-jigs or go to tossing plastics...kind of curious what you guys would do again no boat so just shore fishing.. water clarity is relatively clear not muddy.. |

I'd probably throw a Carolina rig, with a 1/2 oz or heavier weight. That will keep you in contact with the bottom, so you'll be able to feel its composition pretty good. You should be able to tell if it's gravel, mud, bigger rocks, etc.
You also might try a crankbait, and let it bounce off whatever's down there.

Try a lipless crank, bring over the top of the grass and than ripping it out when you get a little snag of grass, this will often trigger a strike! Just work like you would a crank over the gravel!
Hope you get a few! ![]()

I would also slow roll a spinnerbait to feel for any grass that might be there.
