i am a huge revo guy, and swore off quantums a few years back so i wouldn't know about the energy pt. i do have a buddy that has one and he seems to like it, but then again he bought a revo last week so he may not like it as much as i thought.

I only have one complaint...the bearings seized up after one year of use, I sent it back to quantum and they replaced the bearings. I haven't used it much since it took a few months to get it back and by then it was late fall. When it was in working order it was a great reel

Are you talking about the brand spankin' new ones of 2009 or the previous models? The previous models are the only reels I own. - tours/energies.
I can say that I've owned them for over 2 years and haven't had a single problem. They're so smooth. I've had a few problems with the smoothness of the Revos. They're so smooth, but both of mine started reeling all funny. The only thing you'll have to get over is the weight/size. When I'm fishing, it doesn't bother me one bit. |

I am a pure Revo guy, but I have a buddy that owns 10 or so of the Energy PT's, both 07, 08 and 09 year models. He swears by them. I've tossed one of his a few times and they are IMHO great reels, I just like revo's better. I do have the Energy PT spinning reel, and it's great. They didn't have the Soron out yet, so I'm gonna replace it soon, but the Quantum spinning reel has been great, and that unbreakable titanium bail wire has been a lifesaver a couple times.

Yeah. I've been wondering about that paint. With the Titanium Deposition finish, I thought it was supposed to be scratch proof?
The only place my reels get any sign of boat rash is the handle where the finish isn't. Paint is great on every Quantum I've ever used. Maybe it's the older models that suck for paint. |

There's a Rod and Reel Repair place in Massachusetts (30 min.away) and I've been goin' there for twenty some years. Anyway they tell me Shimano has the fewest repair record. Diawa,ABU and Quantum a lot more incidents of repair. I wonder, does KVD fish a Quantum right off the assembly line?

IMH(and expert
![]() The NEW Kwantums, being relatively svelte at 7.7 ozzies, are pretty much OK. The previous models were obese to the extreme. Weight is your enemy and, finally, my long-expressed rants re weight have been honored by the proliferation of lighter reels coming to a store near you. That said, I DO own some REVOs and the iconic 'Rado 200BSFs (plus a Viento and a Castaic,) but they are all under the magic number (9 ozzies,) in weight. My real treasures are my 'Narch 50 Mike Golfs. If I'm ever in the chips again, there will be more reels in the 7 ozzie and below class in my arsenal. Book it! L6 |

Um I have 13 quantum reel from ten years old to six months and love them all . I also do my own reel maintnece and havent had one problem. If your bearings get rough soak em in break parts cleaner and then put them on the shaft of the spool and spin them dry and then soak em in hot sauce oil. They will work like new.

Sorry when I say soak em I mean get an glass jar and fill it about half an inch with brake clean and with the oil do the same you can pour the oil back in its bottle after you are done.

I love all my Quantums - the new ones are SICK.
As for KVD - almost all the reels he uses are right off the factory line. I was there when they gave him a box of them at the plant a few years ago. For the purpose of full disclosure - I am on the Quantum Pro Staff. The older ones Early 2007 and prior the paint was an issue - most late 2007 up till now the coating/paint has been much better. My favorite new one is the Catalyst Saltwater low profile (yes for bass fishing) hits the pocket at about $189.99 but, is super light - super smooth and if its rated for saltwater it should have no problem with lake water! ![]() The new TE - IMHO is the best reel for under $300 on the market - Carbon Fiber handle, super smooth, super light and overall an amazing reel! Looks cool too! |
