Default Dick's Sporting Goods store question

Dick's sporting goods is opening here in May. Do they generally have a good bass selection? I have seen plenty of TV ads for them, but their website is rather disappointing if I check out their freshwater fishing selection.

They are OK, bps is better obviously. Gander mountain is also better.

It really depends on the store at hand, i have been to some stores that have a pretty good bass selection of plastics, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits... other stores seem to have very little stuff.

Thanks Guys. Sadly BPS is about 90 miles away and cabellas is a few hundred past that.

I like the ones in dayton, they arent as good as bass pro or gander, but I found lots of stuff at dicks that the other stores didnt carry...Dicks has all kins of sporting goods, so the fishing dept is just a small part of the store. One thing that shocked me at dicks was the rapala cranks were all 9.67.
However I found packages of strike king swim baits about half the price as other stores..
The only quirk I found with dicks was NO grubs at all..it must be a local thing.
They are heavy on crankbaits and spinnerbaits thats for sure ..check em out

There's a relatively new Richard's right next door to our BPS here in San Antonio. It seems to be more sportswear and treehugger oriented than intended to compete with with BPS. The tackle section is very small by comparison. They carry no high-end rods and a smaller reel selection although the lure selection is decent for it's size.
I suspect they realized that few if any people would go there with tackle in mind but, instead, hoped to make a buck or two on folks who are there for something else...mebbe running shoes...and decide to take a peek at the tackle; Kinda like adding that scandal sheet and candy bar at the supermarket checkout.

Here, NO. Although Neither does WalMart, Gander Mtn, or Dunhams(MI). Of those four though, Gander Mtn is the best. Glad we got cabela's 30min north and BPS 30 min south.

Here in Rochester, Dick's was great when they first opened, but within a year or two they started reducing space devoted to tackle. As far as their site, they don't offer anywhere near the store selection. Last time I looked they didn't offer lures and other small items.

I love my Dick's.....sorry, couldn't help but giggle while I typed that. Anyways, I love it because it is 5 minutes from my house and has about 100-175 feet of fishing section on the upper level. With my Dick's Card, I get double reward points so pretty much each month they send me $30-50 in gift certificates to spend again. I also like to just go in and shoot the **** with a few of the guys either in the fishing section or at the gun counter. It isn't a BassProShops by any means, but for those of us not willing to spend a tank of gas to get to BPS it can't be beat.

The Dicks here in Tampa (I mean the store) has a larger bass selection than any other place locally.
The closest BPS has a much larger selection, but is 2 hours away.

We got a Dicks moving into the area. Less than 5 minutes from my house, I hope they will carry a decent section of fishing gear because the last one I was in. Was aimed more toward Paintballing, hiking ect......

Hello Cassidyta, I've got a Dick'sSporting Goods 10 min. from home in Warwick, R.I. It actually has a good bass section. I sent a Message to Zooker last month about their tackle sale.Man did I get Monkey Slapped. All Rapala 20% off.All Zoom 25% off.All Yamamoto 10% off.

I have 3 Dick's within 15-45 min from my house. For certain they're way better then Sports Authority, but they're certainly not in the same class as BPS, Cabelas, & Gander Mountain. Like most sport store chains that open up in malls, their main focus is on sports clothing and footwear geared to the single female.

The newest store and closest to my house is a single standing two story building next to one of the largest malls in the country. The lower floor is 80% clothing. UP stairs is the hunting, fishing, and golf depts.

The fishing dept is pretty well stocked at the beginning of the season, then slowly empties out with many open pegs that are left that way till a restocking late in the season.

I use Dicks as a way to replace lost items or things that I need asap but don't have the time to order online as long as they have it. One of the big issues is that many colors in plastics aren't carried, or sell out and aren't replaced. So you either are forced to switch color, plastic maker, or type. In some cases it will be a combo of the 3.

We need to remember that Dicks main focus is on the casual fisherperson, and would rather sell a $100 worth of cloths then a $5 lure.
