check to see what your reel supports first... don't want to go putting 15lb test on a reel that supports up to 10lb

huh? Â*I've tried several kinds of lines and in my experience, cajun red has less stretch than most any other mono. I think that it is an awesome line for fishing weeds(thin weeds) becuase of the low stretch and the fact that I can almost never break the 14lb test line. Â*The hook straightens out before the line breaks and the line has very low memory. Â* Other than that, for fishing really thick nasty brush and weeds, when flippin and pitching, and when c-rigging, [move][glow=green,2,300] POWERPRO IS THE WAY TO GO!!! [/glow][/move] |

i have heard it has almost no stretch.......i to fish weeds so i use 20lb powerpro.....there is no way i want to be using 17lb mono...that is some thick stuff....i have 20lb mono on my one of my saltwater reels...is it is terrible to cast.....thats why i only use it for live bait...i have 20lb powerpro on everything else fresh and salt.....and i have extra spools spooled up with 10lb stren....and i have a crappie rod/reel spooled up with 6lb trilene.

I scaled down to 10 lb last week and I hate it!
I am going back to 14 and 17 on couple of the rods and see how it goes for the lighter stuff, I'll keep 10 on spinning...it keeps breaking on me, I am not sure if I went to light or got a bad spool...or more like it..a old spool..it seems brittle, my first clue was I flipped my rod back to throw a big topwater and it broke off on the cast.. |

Nope, but if it will hold that much 6 lb I'd go with 8 or even 10 lb-probably 8. I'm thinking you are putting this on a spinning rod.

if that is the highest lb it will go....then stay away from cover!! i would suggest getting a new reel...i know you have a spincaster :P i would go with a spinning reel 8) i like the shimano sahara 4000fb for $60 at sports authority...then grab your self an ugly stick mh action 6'6'' for $40 while your there....all together a great setup for only $100 8)

Its not like surfing Matt even though i luv to surf! Your height really doesnt matter on the height or length of your rod!

If you can use either side for the handle use whatever feels most comfortable. I have the handles on my spinning reels on the left side-reel with my left hand, but with baitcasters I reel with my right. Been doing it so long now I don't think I could change and don't want to

did you read my post matt??? i recommended a perfect setup for you.....im right handed.....i reel with my left hand and cast with my right....so the rod never leaves my right hand 8) i can reel both right and left.....but i CANNOT cast with my left arm unless its a sidearm cast. so if i wanted to i could reel right handed...then i would have to change the rod from hand to hand....so reeling with my left hand is just easier 8)

Stren Superbaird or PowerPro, i like the 30 lb test, i use this for working wooded areas(ask NJBassDevil). I never had a hang up with it, cut the branch clean of the log with it. Also like it for jig fishing. I found one thing out though, keep your drag lighter when using braid so it doent dig in so bad. Also for a rod I would reccomend a Fenwick 6ft Medium Heavy HMX coupled with a Mitchell Avocet S2000(? think it is what i have), but I would love to get the pluger president reel for it. NOTE_this is my spinning setup! 8)
