Default Heavy Bait causing backlash

This weekend I started having a backlash issue unlike anything I have had before. I have been tossing a mattslure blue gill that weighs 1.9 oz. I have been throwing it on a bantam sg100 reel attached to a dobyns rod that is rated for the weight. I am using 65lbs power pro.

My line has begun to dig very deep into the spool after each cast. Every third to fourth cast, the lure will just stop in mid-air and hit the water like a brick.
I spooled all of th eline and made sure it was on properly, but the issue remained. I have cinched down the tension to acocunt for the added weight, but still a no go. The reel is clean, greased, and oiled.

This is the same set up that I have used on these lures for two years now without any problem. The reel performs properly on everything else except for my 2+ oz lures on a cast. I can pitch it just fine.

Any ideas on what else I should be checking?
