Crankbait/Swimbait

I have two ambasudar reels 5.3.1 that I want to use for a crankbait and swim bait. What rods should I use length and action? I have 2 6' 6 mh right now

How big are the swimbaits? If it over 1 1/2 oz than I would get a H action. And the rod you have is to short IMO for swimbaits, 7' at least. For cranks, M action and 7' at least.

Ya, you could use a 6' 6", but I like a 7' rod better! MH is a great action for that!

I agree, MH for your soft plastic swim baits. I'd look for one with a fast action as well. As for a crankbait rod, I'd stay with a medium action rod with a medium fast action tip. Many folks like a 7 foot rod for cranks, but I use 6 1/2 foot rods and have no trouble.

keithdog is dead on pal. fast actioon is the way to go. feel the subtle hits better.

For big crankbaits I prefer my Falcon 7 ft crankbait rod. Nice and soft, absorbs a ton of vibration and casts my cranks a country mile.

For soft 5 inch swimbaits, which I just started experimenting with, I'm using a 6'6" MH fast action rod. My thinking here is that I can control the swimbaits line of flight better with the shorter length rod for now. I'm also pitching it like I would a spinnerbait. Both setups are coupled with a Team Daiwa Advantage 150A 5.1 to 1 reels, spooled with 30 lb Sufix Braid and a 17lb mono leader.
