New to bass

Hello all. I am new to bass fishing. We went to a new lake to fish for crappie , and saw many large bass. This lake is very weedy they are submerged weed beds. what is the best way to fish a heavy weed bed? Are certain lures or rigs better in weeds? Thank you Paul

I like hoppin' a frog on top of grass. If there are any openings in the weeds try throwing a crankbait or a spinnerbait along side of the weeds. You can also pitch a jig or a texas rigged worm in any holes in the weeds.

To answer your question, there isn't a best bait, but there sure are some good ones to use. This time of year in heavy weeds a soft jerkbait like a Zoom Super Fluke or a Tiki Stick is a great fish catcher. This is a Super Fluke:



and if you read the thread titled "rigging a Tiki Stick" you can see what one looks like and how to rig it. You rig the fluke the same way as the T-rig and work both with soft twitches of the rod tip.

But always remember to be patient because when your bass fishing your not going to get as many bites as when your crappie fishing(most of the time)

Paul, Throw some braid line on a reel, flip and pitch in the thickest part of the cover using jigs, or soft plastics with a heavy sinker. Buzzbaits, and Zara spooks, spook jrs work well even though sometimes they foul up on loose weeds floating. Â*;D P N J

I fish in much the same conditions .There are several good baits to use.Early and late : Topwaters/my favorite is a floating jerkbait.A spinnerbait fished above the submerged grass is a great tactic.For floating grass,try throwing parallel to the weeds and also throw into any open pockets.the worst that happens is you have to clean a little grass off your lure.Use shallow running crankbaits the same way.Soft jerkbaits and Tiki-stiks fished weight-less and Texas-rigged is a good bet also.
