So... Theres been this small pond I've been eying up a few miles down the road, but there's private property signs around it and some houses and a farm near it so I really haven't bothered it. But today I was itching to try some new spots so I went down to it. I was looking around and found a lady hanging up some laundry and asked her whos pond it was and she told me the guy across the road. I went to his house and asked him if i could fish it, and he gladly said yes, I knew him too becuase he used to be a substitute teacher at my high school.
So I go to the pond and to start things off I threw a rooster tail. I like starting with a rooster tail because they catch the small stuff like crappie, bluegill, and small bass. This way I can get a nice feel for whats in the pond. First cast... nice 14" bass! I figured... OK! this is cool. So i started with the jigs, and worms. On my football jig, I caught another nice bass over 12" and bullhead that looked to be about 12"! I dig, I dig! So I move to the one side where there was some vegetation on the top of the water and where the wind was blowing and casted a 7" powerworm texas rigged ontop the junk. Gave it a few twitches and I got a strong hit! Took it under and i set the hook, and it took me at least 2 minutes to reel this fish in... my reel is also inda junky and skips, so that added to it. I knew it was a nice one... I reached down and pulled out this 18" largemouth! It was a beautiful catch! I just need to buy a scale to get the weight cause this thing was kinda fat! My guess would be about 4 pounds, probably closer to 3.75. Heres a pic of it, I couldn't get a pic of me holding it since i went alone so I took it by the tackle box so you can compare it to something. Looks like I found another nice spot! I might have to keep it on the down-low! haha Last edited by BoyoBoyle; 07-16-09 at 04:17 PM. |
