Guntersville Sunday 7-19-2009
My neighbor and I put in at the Comer Bridge and went out for a day of pure fun fishing last Sunday, on Guntersville. The grand old lake didn't dissappoint us either. The grass and pad bite was on in a big way. Between Ribbit frogs and T-rigged Ribbon tail worms, Zara Spooks and Super Flukes we couldn't do no wrong. Schoolies and chunks were abundant. Below is the biggest that I caught that day, unfortunately I forgot to grab my scales out of my boat and my neighbor couldn't locate his scales so I will not venture to guess the weight (use your imagination).
John, you should've been there!

Just to give you guys a reference point, for those who have not met me. I stand 6' 1" and weigh in the vicinity of 220 pounds and wear a size 11 1/2 wedding ring.

You look about 10' 3" in that pic, Bob. What did you do, set the timer on the camera and put it in the bottom of the boat?

Not actually, I have a neighbor who is generally not a "wiz" at photography, so he takes multiple pics. Here are a couple of more shots of the same fish, tell me which one is the best (although feeling like your 10' tall would be cool!! )

Nice bucketmouth Bob! I notice the red on the tail was the bass sitting on the bed or still recovering from the spawn?

I would say that fish is 5-1/2 to 6 lbs. It looks slightly larger than either of the two 5lb'ers I caught recently (fresh in my memory). From Bob's physical dimensions, he's not a little guy either.

Just for the sake of comparison, I caught this one on Guntersville last March and weighed it on my Bekely digitals at 4.1 lbs.
Crank-Bait-Frank, great eye, Bubba. Blood was dripping from her tail for sure.

Nice one Bob!
I would guess the length to be around 23+ inches and to weigh at least 6lbs+. ~Mark |

That fish is 6-7 pounds give or take. It is definitely not a 4. No way.

WTL (Brother Love) would be a little closer I believe. She was thick as well. Me on the right, then Brother Love, John in the middle, and Chris the carpenter/builder on the left. The rest of the crew is our first G2G at G-ville (great memories for sho!).

DAD-GUMMIT BOB! dat right der is at least 6# like bro love said. dang it,dang it, DANG IT! not jelous, just envious is more like it gang. sorry i couldn't meet you there bob. really would've loved to see you again.
and that picture brings back some more fantastic memories. ol chris is married as of tomorrow night bob, did he tell you? didn't tell me for fear of me talking his lovely bride outta going through with it, hahahahahahahaha. and gang...that second set of pics is the pads and "gator vines" (as i refer to em) that i fish in when i put in where bob put in. these are the kinds of bass we have here. i think it is closer to 7# now that i look at it more bob. man that's a nice fish. was it on the frog or the worm? wait, i'll read it again. nope, ya didn't say which bait. i am guessing by the sunlight, da worm got her. and i am guessing she was just inside the grass line. am i close? hahahaha. thanks for reminding me why i love that lake bob. the pics are great and i truly wish i could've been there. lisa and i will return soon though. we got around 4 more weeks chris said. we'll see. oh and by the way, they are closing b b comer for repairs. haveta go to the other launchs now. think it will be closed for around a monthe or so. it'll be better though when they are through. it needs repairing badly.

last Sunday they actually closed the river while they strung new power lines across the river at the bridge.
I found another ramp just south of the comer ramp right on 67 (that road that runs along the shore), and it is right adjacent to the pads I was fishing. Chris never said a word about getting married. That's funny because his soon to be stepson drives him nuts! Love is a funny thing and it makes people do silly things.

Released.. I have two bass on the wall from the early 80s, caught bigger than those and just take pictures of them now. Unless I am fishing for Bamabass and that motley crue in the picture. They wanted some food, so we donated some fish to the fish fry in June 2008.
