Cranking Rod???

I am looking to purchase a rod solely for crankbaits. I was wondering what length, what "flex", what brand, etc. I am going to use the Quantum Pro baitcaster but need a new rod. Help please.

I am looking to have a setup that will allow me to cast relatively far so I can cover more area when out on my little boat. What about the Quantum KVD series?

Also, can I attach a "clip" to the end of the line so I can switch out crankbaits without having to retie all the time?

F&G here is the Crankin stic I use it is priced great, and has given me no problems. I use a 7 foot MH. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/st...002000_100-2-6

I think a 7' M, Moderate action will cover most of your shallow-medium cranking needs. I'd step up to 7'MH, M action for deep deep divers.

I know someone who's got a shimano Compre crankbait rod for sale. It's lighty used, 7' M, MF action. should work great paired with a low speed reel. He wants 90 bucks for it (it was 120 new i believe). If you'd be interested, shoot me a pm and I'll see if he'll ship it.

Oh, and yes, you can use a snap, or one with a swivel, but make sure the snap is that kind. It's the only kind I trust.

F and G. I just got my new Tiger Rod cranking rod today. Its by far the lightest rod I have ever held in my hand. I will be taking it out this weekend to test it out. I will let you know how great it is after I break it in. Check them out at www.tigerodz.com .

Don't know how much you want to spend. Economical - the BPS crankin' stick is decent, but it's heavy. Something in 7' medium should do for everything except the deep divers. Mid-range - St Croix. Both the Premier and Avid have crankbait specific rods, and I think the Premier & possibly the Avid offers a composite blank - a blend between a fiberglass and graphite rod. Premium - Loomis has a series of crankbait specials, they are graphite and pretty nice. Or my choice Kistler. I just got a set of Argon crankbait rods, and they are sweet. For you in the one man boat probably the 6'9" medium would be the ticket. The Magnesium is a bit cheaper (comparable to the Avid) and also offers a composite blank in 7' medium. Snaps? I use the Norman speed clips. Easy to use and I haven't had one fail yet. I do remove the split ring from all my cranks.
