Is there a specific use for this reel, or just an all around reel? The reason I ask is that the gear ratio is important in what you are using it for. I do use Shimano an awful lot(prettty much excusively for baitcasters) but know that other manufactureres also make fine products. If you are gonna go with the Curado, spend a few extra bucks if it's for an all around reel, and get the SF(super free) model. It was reccomended to me, and is a lot nicer than the regular curado. If it's for cranking I would go with a lower gear ratio, maybe a 5.0:1 or even the 3.8:1

I own 3 Curado's now and can't seem to ween myself off them. They might not seem that nice, until you get the chance to use one. Then you'll understand. A freind got the pfluger and he's in love with it.So,I guess you'll like the one you choose.

Buy what you want. They all make very good reels. If you fish heavy cover I prefer to have a lower ratio reel like a 5.2:1 ratio. It seems to have more cranking power. For flipping or windy conditions its hard to beat the Daiwa magnetic brake system, however the advantage reels sit very low and are wider than normal Daiwas.I sold the 2 advantage because they were too wide for my liking . They did cast great though. I really like the president reels I had.I don't know why I sold them.Just pick a reel you think you like and forget what other people think. P N J

Kali, Go to a Bass pro shop and look at them ,crank them and see how they fit in your hand . Every person has a different opinion on what reel they think is the best. You have to decide which one is best for you. P N J

Here's a suggestion for you. Go to http://www.ebay.com you don't have to order from there, but just check the prices on used reels for the three models above. That should tell you what holds it's value, thereby telling you want are some of the better reels. I don't want to tell anyone to buy this reel or that for the money you are spending. I have a 2 Shimano Castaic for Pitching and Flipping, I also own three of the Shimano Calais's(3 different models), I also have a Curado 200B, a Cruado 200BSF(super free), a Shimano 200B5, and I'm selling a Pinnacle. Not that the Pinnacle is a bad reel, just my preference for Shimano. So as PNJ said, it's your choice. Some folks hate Shimano, I love them. I really think it's a personal preference. If you want a good reel at a great price, buy my Pinnacle I have it listed in the Classified section. Really don't buy anything unless YOU like it. Or just make sure it's returnable if you don't like it.

Lizards, That is why we get along so well, I am sure Shimano is a fine product, I just enjoy arguing with my freinds who own them. It is confirmed by many Shimano owners that there was never any free tube of lipstick, barrette's, nail polish, or a free how to catch fish book with each purchase of a new Shimano reel.

The Curado will outlast any of those and is real smooth especially when fighting fish.

What planet are you on ? I do not know how you have arrived at that conclusion. .Shimano's notoriety does not come from lasting any longer than the other reels mentioned. Please be honest for the sake of the people learning here. Thank you. ;D P N J

i have a shimano sahara 4000fb spinning reel and it works great for both fresh and salt water fishing. i also have a pflueger trion spinning reel which i am very happy with and a abu garcai spinning reel which i am happy with. 8) all are good brands and i would suggest any of them.

Its amazing how everybody has their own preferance. Who really can say if one reel is superior in make or technology to another? Its like pitting a ford guy vs a chevy guy - when in reality I would be a very happy man with either a new silverado or f150. If anybody thinks Shimano sucks so bad that they can't stand to look at that Calais sitting on their desk, send it to me - I will manage. Same goes for any millionares or morrums or whatever the hell quantum makes.

Pflueger President Wide Spool. After using mine every weekend since the beginning of April, i love it. It's so ungodly smooth and casts like a dream. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Kali,No reel company intends to make a bad product. No one reel brand outlast another brand by a wide margin. It that each brand has different features or size that makes one person buy it over another brand.Go with your gut instincts on whether it is the best reel to your liking.I would reccomend seeing them and put them on a rod so you know how they feel and how smooth they are. Especially at the price range you are looking , if your not happy with it you will be selling it for under cost to get rid of it. ;D P N J

I think everybody knows how I feel. Check out Pinnacle. I have two Janis reels and a Tetra and love them. Pinnacle also makes the reels for Cabela's. The Janis is the same as Cabela's Tournament ZX which you can get for $50.00 right now. The Tetra is the same as Cabela's Prodigy. Do a search on E-bay for Pinnacle and you can probably pick up a Tetra for about $70.00. A guy called Aegis has them posted all of the time.
