I switched to Trilene XT 10 pd test. Everytime I go out fishing and try to throw my lure on my closed face reel, the line gets twisted up in inside my closed face reel and i can't cast the lure to where i want it to go. I will throw out a long ways and reel it back in with pressure on the line. It's ok for a few more casts then it seems to get kinked up again inside my reel. Any advice? Should I go to a different line, or am I putting to much line on my closed face reel??????? HELP!!!!!!!!

is your reel rated for 10lb test? how many yards (roughly) did you put on? If you put too much line on, it tends to tangle

closed face reel? is that a spincaster? i know an open face is a spinning, but not sure about a close faced? anyways, sounds like you either put to much line on, have a heavier lb test then your reel is rated for, or the line has a lot of twist. if you buy braid, you can put heavier line then the reel is rated, because 20lb powerpro has the diameter as 6lb mono. but you cannot put a heavier mono on then the reel is rated for.

Sounds like you are having a problem with line twist. Try this: take it outside and with nothing tied to it push the button, take the end of the line and start walking. When you get to the end, reel the line back on using your fingers to keep the line tight on the reel. The line will untwist as you reel it back on.

Rebasser, If you read my original thread you will see that I said that I do cast out as far as I can and real back in with pressure on my line to untangle the line. I need to know what is the best line to use that does not twist. I have heard Stren would work for me.

Yea, well read his THREAD because he said to walk it out not cast it. Having a lure on the end will prevent it from untwisting. If that doesnt work. Try pulling a lot of line off the reel and cut it. Might be to MUCH on it to.

web,
First off DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT, put PowerPro, or Any Fused line on a spincaster(closed faced). They have a coating on them. The coating will flake off inside the housing, and Gum it up, creating a terrrible mess. What Rebasser said will work, after that tie tie the end to a tree, and pull it tight to try to remove some of the memory, and also pray reel magic on a rag, and have it coat the line as you reel it back in. As also stated, you could have too much line on it. I will venture to say if you have a smaller or even medium size reel, it's not designed to hold 10lb The bigger ones only go up to maybe 12lb max from what I've seen. Lizards |

How you put it on from the spool makes a dif. too I think
I always have put a pencil through the spool and then take it directly from that to my reel I used to lay it on the floor and not notice if the spool label was up or down, someone told me it could be going on backwards, don't know if thats really true but since switching to the pencil/spool method, it helps. I take a heavy book and place a pencil under it , hanging over a table, then the spool on it, go about 10 feet away and reel in the line, holding the line gently to get it on tight, you never want to hold on too tight when spooling a reel , it tends to bunch up on the top of the spool instead of loading line on it evenly 8) |
