Well, about maybe a little less than a year ago, I tore down one of my older reels trying to "make it better." But of course I broke it! So last night, I checked it out again. Turns out them springs in there where gone, and the plastic thing that held the spool gear down kept on popping up because of this! So what I did was glue it down (probably not the best idea, but hey, what did I have to loose, it was broke all ready!). Now I can turn the handle and the spool turns (it did not before!). So I was just about to put some line, when I found out the drag didn't work!
![]() So before I glue anything else down ( ![]() btw, it's an older (gray) Quantum bill dance casting reel. Thanks! ![]()

When you say "doesn't work" are you saying that it is too tight or too loose?

Way too loose. Might as well be in free spool.

It is either put back together wrong (most likely) or the drag washer is not doing you any good. Even worn drag washers will offer some resistance. I would take the drag assembly apart again and confirm that it is back together correctly.

I am not familiar with that reel, so I can't be off too much help
Drag is accomplished with the friction of two washers. As you tighten the star nut, these are forced closer together. Each model is slightly different, but the concept is the same on everyone. http://www.quantumfishing.com/Custom...mentparts.aspx find your model and it will show you the schematic on how it goes together. Also, get rid of the glue! If need be, take a cheap ball point pen and make a spring for it.

It sounds like it was reassembled wrong. Do you happen to have the schematics of the reel?

Try this, hopefully you can still read the model number off of the reel. If not maybe you can find something that's similar.
