One cast, One Bass.....

Thats the way my day started.....Caught a nice chunky bass on the first cast of the morning. Right then I thought "Either its gonna be a great day or thats the only bass i'm gonna catch today...lol". By the time we left, that statement proved to be almost true on both counts.....I did catch a second bass, but it still turned out to be a great day thanks to Mother Nature.

While trolling down an extremely steep shoreline, we begin to hear the sounds of a critter crying out....either its hurt,or in trouble, or fighting or something of the sort....I thought it might be a squirrel at first, but as we cleared a large section of overhanging trees, I could see some sort of critter running frantically up and down the bank and it was larger then a squirrel. As we got closer I realized it was a Long tailed Weasel, and the cries are coming from babies. At this point I try to multitask and grab my camera, while trying to maneuver the boat closer with the trolling motor while fighting a mild (yet frustrating) wind....."remember i'm new at the foot control thingy".....At the same time i'm doing this, I can feel myself stepping on one of my rods on the floor, and i'm trying not to break it....All while trying to capture this unique moment of nature on my digital point and shoot camera.....The one time I wished I had taken the daughters high def video camera and not mine.

As probably most of you are, I'm a big nature lover, so its pretty cool when you catch an interesting moment in the wild, much less a moment between a wild animal parent and child....definitely something you don't see very often. I've been stompin thru the woods and fishin most of my life and at almost 53yrs old, this was the first Weasel i've ever run across. That means this moment ranks right up there at the top with the time I saw a bald eagle snatch a fish from the lake while Ron and I sat on the boat and watched. Nature channel LIVE....hahaha.
