So my dad and I loaded up the boat and headed back to the reservoir I fished Wednesday.
Using slip bobbers and wax worms, we only managed three more keepers, but they add up. Around 10:30-11, the bite died except for a bunch of tiny 2.5-4" bluegill... This reservoir isn't known for it's bass fishing, but I picked up an extra rod we had in the boat with a shaky head jig and a white Zoom trick worm on it. I threw it out towards the shore and was kind of hoping it through the softball to soccer ball sized rocks. I let it sit a minute and watched the line. nothing. I went to move the shaky head and it felt weird. I set the hook and thought, "dangit, I'm in those sunken christmas trees we had been fishing for gills" Then the christmas tree shook it's head a couple times and skyrocketed from probably 15' down to over a foot out of the water! From the boat, it looked like a 4-5lb bass, and a Smallie at that! She jumped a few more times, none as spectacular as the first, and soon I had her at the boat. She was very dark with not a lot of the spotting you see on many smallies, but a smallie nonetheless. Once I got her closer, she was around 4-4.5lbs. I reached down to lip her and she shook around and seemed to get her second wind. I let her splash around a second at the side of the boat, then went to lip her again. And again, she splashed around and then she CAME OFF!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() She would've been my new PB. I'd love to have smallie as my PB. I'll be coming back to this reservoir with more bass tackle next time. However, we talked to a couple guys that live no to far from there and they said they've never heard of anyone catching a smallie from there, but people do occasionally catch LM. So, BB - 0 ; Skunk - 1. ![]() BB
