My wife and I finally took a vacation-a cruise through the inside passage to Alaska. I had the opportunity to go on a half day trip for King Salmon and we were successful! Not only did I get an 18 lb King:
![]() I also got a bonus with a 15 lb Ling Cod-ugly fish but fun to catch: ![]() First time I had been trolling using a downrigger. All told we got 3 kings with the biggest being 20, 2 15 lb Ling Cods and a rockfish. If you ever get the chance to go to Alaska, GO! It is AWESOME!

Awesome! I see now that you've had a taste fighting a salmon. Trolling gear is "big boy" gear but still a blast. You were so close to my neck of the woods! Was your guide able to freeze and pack your catch? If so, good times on the grill ahead fo sho'! Congrats on the catches.

Congrats on the nice fish and looks like a great vacation! just curious what you thought of fishing with downriggers? I've been on several trips on Lake Michigan and always found it so odd to watch for the rod tip to pop up as a signal for a hit.
