Default baseball card--ebay

I know he's going to be a good one but this this is crazy. Rookie Steven Strausbergs rookie card on ebay. Check it out Item number http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200485213281

But I wish I had it.

So far Strausberg seems to be the real deal. I still don't see how that card could be worth anywhere near that or hold anywhere close to that value. The "Holy Grail" of baseball cards sold for $2.35 million in '07, it's also 100 years old.

There is no way, when that auction ends, that the bidders are going to actually pay that.

Its a card for a promising upcoming rookie, not an original 1909 Honus Wagner.

As for the game of baseball, it has been hurt by modern life. In the day, when your small town had a team and your neighboring small town had a team that was a rival 15 miles away, and there was nothing to do in the evening cause there was no TV, and the pitcher also cut your grass and bagged groceries, and AC wasnt invented yet so you might as well be in a ballpark as opposed to the couch - those days were the time when baseball was a great game.

Today we need speed, we need drama, so its college football that is the most important game because there is so much more riding on every game (1 out of 14) as opposed to 1 out of 162.

I know all hobbies have an appeal that a lot of other people don't understand. Fishing is definitely like that, and I'm sure my friends and co-workers probably scratch their head when they think about how much time and money I spend fishing.

But baseball cards are such a frigging joke. As a guy who has a couple of boxes full of 50,000 baseball cards (I haven't even looked at in 20 years) sitting up in a closet, I feel qualified to say that. Basically the appeal is like that of a slot machine addict. "If I buy another box, I might get a (insert name of current soon to be forgotten next big rookie here) card. And it will be so valuable. Riiiiight. I remember the late 80's, when people bought up millions of Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr, etc. cards, as part of their kids' college funds. That didn't work out so well.

Baseball cards should be where they were meant to be, clothespinned to the spokes of a boy's bike wheel to make noise.

That is actually %100 true.

But nobody will be around to pay for that card when the auction ends.

Isn't this Strasburg's rookie year? He wasn't called up until a few weeks ago. If it is, then his "rookie" card is still in circulation and should be in general purchase packs.

I hadn't even thought about that, hasn't he only pitched like 3 games? Should he even have a card yet?

The card in question was a special card Bowman put in their 2010 set. There is only one card in existence. Period. So some lucky guy got it out of a pack, and now he will be retiring early.

Supposedly, it is an autographed card, and the thing that sets it apart is it had a red border.
