Just Flukin' Around

Hey tonight Denny and me went out and had fluke101 classes.
I was telling him the presentation and rod action to make dif. glides of the bait, and we got to talking about weighing the bait with dif. size hooks and also rattles or small nails.
Has anyone else tried to weigh them down? I am thinking in shallow water anyone can be patient enough to let them sink on thier own with just the hook
but many times ona big body of water the sink rate seems unbearable, waiting to get to maybe 7-10 feet before you start your presentation
How bout it? any fluke experts have ideas on todays trends?? ???

I love flukes and any soft jerkbaits but to me it works best to let the hook do the sinkin because the longer that takes to sink the longer it is in the strike zone and the more time it is in the strike zone the better percent you have of gettin a bass but if you really want it to sink faster then i would wrap some sodering wire around the hook shank.(hook shank)

I used to always fluke fish when i was little with my grandpa....but hes really old now and he had a stroke. He cant really remember when we used to fish together.

That is a good point about a slow drop and staying in the strike zone

Yes I have used insert weights, and try to get them so the fish actually falls slightly tail first. I have also used a 1/16ox bullett at the nose pegged, and have had good success. Another way I like to fish them is on what I call a Mojo-rig. A barrel weight pegged about 9"-18" up the line from the hook. It really slides well through the grass that way. I don't jerk it though when doing this I pull it through. But to be honest I still like weightless if I can, but you do have to make adjustments from time to time, to get the bait to the fish.

no clay, a fluke is a bait, but since i dont know how to post pictures, hopefully reb will.

The only time I have used them with a weight is on a C-rig, or insert a nail weight in the back end of the bait-makes it fall a little different than with a bullet sinker and sink faster than just using the weight of the hook. Another thing you can do is take the rubber core out of a rubber core sinker and crimp the lead on your hook-I haven't done that but know a couple of guys that have with mixed results.

i clamp a split shot on the shank so that it doesn't nose dive so much. i also bite the nose off of them sometimes to give them more erratic action when weightless.

Just picked up a bag of Tiny Fluke in "bait fish" and a bag of the super flukes in "white ice". Seems like I've been buying bags of flukes faster than I can use them, 8 bags in 2 weeks. I've been expiermenting with not only rigging them, but cutting them as well to help the bait suspend a little longer, I'll let yall know what type of sucess I have when I find the right cut.

Have you seen the "flutter hook" by H&H tackle? Â*it is exactly what you describe on you rubber core sinker/hook combo. Â*They have them in red and black chrome. Â*I bought them at Academy up here in Austin. Â*They carried them in 3/0, 4/0, and 5/0. One reccomendation, wet the hook and fluke to prevent ripping the plastic........

i caught a nice 7lb hawg today on a watermelon super fluke by zoom. first fish i have caught off a fluke.

Sometimes I will put a little bit of Sticky Weight on the bend of my hook.

if ur lookin for extra depth with out messin with the action try a 12 inch steel leader

sounds stupid i no but try it you will be surprised!
