Default Two weeks and three seasons of Bass Fishing!!!

Bass season is only two weeks old and it has already been an adventure. Through it all the fish have kept biting, although some days you had to work a lot harder than others.

It all started in the rain.

Then it got quite cool with high winds.

Please note the seven year old is successfully using a baitcaster!

Last week we had the heat-wave.

Then came a couple of days with sudden down pours with thunder and lightning

Tourist's question...So; what is the Ontario weather like in July?
Resident's answer...We're not sure, but if you don't like it, just wait a few minutes...It will change!

This is an awesome report! Hats off to the young man for using a bc rig at seven. I think that at times we underestimate a child's ability to learn quickly. My daughter learned how to use a bc reel at 6 and the first words out of her mouth after her first cast were, "Papi, this reel is so much easier to use than the other (spinning) kind." That was a proud dad moment. She is now 10 and unfortunately has put bc reels away for now because she is hooked on drop shotting and prefers a spinning set up. Oh well. I just hope she outfishes me every time because that is insurance that she'll want to keep fishing with me.

Way to get into them regardless of the weather conditions.

This is the third year that this little fella has come up to fish with me. His Dad doesn't really fish but the boy is an enthusiast who watches all the cable fishing shows...grin.
His personal outfit is a spin-caster and he can really cast a long way with it.

Last summer I started him with the BC, and it only took a few minutes for him to get comfortable with the new reel. This year he asked if he could use it again...grin.

With any beginner the trick, of coarse, is to tighten the brakes enough that thumbing isn't really needed. With children, their small hands can also have a hard time with round reels, so I put them on a low profile models. Of coarse, good equipment is easier to learn on the cheap stuff that is heavy or won't stay in-tune.

You are 100% spot on. My daughter learned with a Curado. My only teaching thought for her was this: No matter what happens, you have to stop the spool from spinning right before the lure hits the water or anything else. Worked like a charm.

Kudos to you for nurturing his passion and enthusiasm.
