What are the best sizes and color spinnerbaits for semi-clear water? I am shore fishing a reservoir.

3/8 oz Tandem-Colorado/willow blades-white or shad colors. Â*If it is stained water white/chartreuse is a good color choice.

Reb, What's your reasoning? Not about the blades and colors, but the 3/8 weight. |

No particular reason-that is just the size I use the most. It is the easiest to cast-not too heavy or too light. I also use both bigger and smaller baits depending on the conditions or how deep I need it to go.

so 3/8 for spinners but im wondering if you would change the size if you are fishing anything with a current such as a river inlet or just a main river. I never seem to do good on anything but tubes and jerk baits in the murky deeper waters. The shallows are a diff story though

I like 1/2oz-1oz. willow leaf spinnerbaits with a chart/white skirt.A silver lead willow followed by a 5.5 or size 6 gold willowleaf blade.I prefer not to have titanium wire so I can open the wire up to make it fish slower or close the wire tighter to fish the bait faster.Atitanium bait will roll over when fished fast because you cannot adjust the wire arm. I hope this helps. P N J

I go with 1/4 ounce with a single colorado blade, brass colored,
I think the vast majority of my spinnerbaits I have made or bought are in the 3/8 ounce size, one small colorado blade and a medium size willow leaf , For grass I use tandem willow and If you want a spinnerbait to go slow, go heavy on the lead, 1/2 with a big tortuise shell or cupped colorado sends a nice thump as it turns through the water an it about as slow a presentation you can have. I like shad color skirts or white or the white and chartruese combo |

Yeah, bayou-for current go heavier on the lead. A trick I have used in the past is to take the rubber core out of a rubber core sinker and crimping the lead to a spinnerbait just above the head. That way I don't have to buy heavier baits, but I don't fish river currents very much.

you are looking for more thump when you put a 5.5 -6 on a blade. here is even better idea add 1 suspend dot to the inside of the back blade near the tip. you only need to use a #3 blade it will feel like a #5. i have made a strange bait i have several super large spinner baits in my cornacopia of baits. i belive they are 3 oz heads and #10 indy blades. sounds like you are throwing out a brim cat fishing when it hits the water. it is some thing i do use but rarly. zooker

I use 1/4 in the shallow weedy water I'm usually fishing and was just wondering if there was some compelling reason to change. |

Pretty much swear by the 3/8 also. Have started playing w/ different blade setups. Larger, smaller combined. Have got some pretty radical results. I have one w/ a lot of thump and a lot of flash- has produced a fish or two. 8)
