Welcome to the forum!
I've been using Gammys for a few years, and have a pretty good landing ratio, but soft plastics are nortorious for having fish come off. What I have found is especially in cover that the line makes all the difference-I very rarely miss a fish when I am using braid, but tend to lose them more often with mono. I recently spooled up a rod with flourocarbon but really haven't had a chance to give it a good workout yet. |

i agree that it might be operator error but I also think that maybe the worm takes up too much of the gap in the hook. maybe I just need to break out the hook sharpener.

Stick with Owner or go with Daiichi hooks. That is only my opinion though. P N J

Or use an extra wide gap (EWG) hook-when using flukes I find the EWG hook works better than an offset shank worm hook.

Yep-I use 50 lb-has the same diameter as 12 lb mono. Nice thing about it is you can throw it into the nastiest stuff and not worry about getting your bait-and hopefully a fish-out of it, and since there is no stretch you don't need as hard a hookset as you do with mono. |

Too many brands of hooks do very well in the fish-catching department; my feeling is that your problem is something other than the brand. Perhaps the wrong style or size of hook, perhaps a problem with technique. There is no reason in the world why Owner hooks should not yield a satisfactory catch-to-strike ratio. |

I used to use Owner hooks almost exclusivly, then I started breaking hooks and losing fish. Now this maybe my fault but I switched to Gamakatsu hooks and have not had any issues since. I have been trying some more of thier hooks out like the "Superbraid" hooks and their "Blood" hooks(red colored). I have really noticed a difference in using the red colored hooks with my flukes, but the bite tapers off when the paint starts to come off of the hook.

Try a Hookerz J-Bend in about a 3/0. Also make sure you feel them before that "cross their *@cking eyes" hookset ;D ;D

Also Owner as much as I love them, really doesn't make a good tube hook. But it's not the hook, it's the application. Lizards |
