Question mystery fish

I was out fly fishing this weekend in a local trout stream and my first catch was something iv never seen. Im fairly new to stream fishing so my knowledge is limited. Can anyone tell me what this is?

i was thinking something like that but it never occured to me that a shiner would live in a small, wooded stream

Creek chubs will make noise like catfish when caught and have small bumps on their heads. They will also aggressively hit baits just like bass and can grow up to 12-14" long. Can't see the head real well in your picture but it's a possibility.

its a shiner. i have caught them on spinners, flies and other lures they will bite.

Yep, that's what it is. Or to be specific, a Fallfish. They're very plentiful in creeks in the Eastern US. They will bite anything and are extremely annoying when fishing for smallmouth. I've caught thousands of them, anywhere from a few inches long, to over a foot.

I thought the same thing about Gizzard shad in one of my local streams. Now they have the place overrun with 2 pound gizzard shad everywhere.

I'd say that'd be a shiner.
