![]() ![]() Eagle Landing Golf Course Not my picture. So, I was fishing a golf course lake with decorative rock work and a bridge over it. In other trips I have caught some nice bass there, however this time a caught a wasp in the face. Yeah that's right, I got stung in the face. I was standing on the other side of the bridge and cast a T-rigged worm to the rocks on the other side and got hung up. So, I set the rod up against the bridge and climbed up through the palms on the side and I guess I walked into a nest and WHAM, I got nailed! Of course it stung like fire for about 30 minutes, and my cheek swelled up a bit, but I didn't let it stop me from my mission. The gator, however, had different plans. he was about 4-5', and I hooked into him twice. The first time I was using a holographic bluegill swimbait from Tsunami. I had passed it close to him a few times but he didn't pay it any notice, so I thought I was ok to keep fishing it near him. Wrong! After about the 4th cast he lunged at it and I hooked him in the mouth. I fought him for a bit, but he threw the hook and i went back to fishing for bass. After a while of nothing I switched up to a 3 1/2" Lit'l Fishie and on the first cast I hooked the same gator in the tail. This time he was submerged, so I didn't even know he was there. This time I battled him all the way to shore, where he performed a beautiful death roll and tossed the hook. Unfortunately I was not able to get any pictures. Some one was standing by with my camera, but didn't realize I wanted them to start shooting pics right away, and was waiting for me to land the thing. Oh well. The fight was awesome, so I guess I have something to be thankful for!

Now I'm not sure if this is a "fish story" or not, but I'm thinking you really need different gear fer gator fishin...not to mention the procedure fer netting him and getting yer hook out! Some things are best left alone....
Reminds me of the time I had been fishing this one spot on a bank fer several days with salted minnows - when finished fer the day, I'd throw the used bait in the water. On the 3rd day I get a heck of a strike so I set the hook and began reeling it in...to suddenly discover a good sized snapping turtle on the other end. I'm glad he got away!

I wasn't trying catch him! I am glad I was using an ugly stick because he doubled it over. He just kept getting in the way. next time I'll try to be more careful.

It is actually quite common here in Florida, however, I got the loon in Michigan. ![]() Yes! My heart was beating so fast I could hear it. When I got him up to the bank it was beating like a drum. But it would not have been my first time wrasslin' a gator, the biggest yes, but not the first.

My worst was when a 4-5ft gator took my nice new topwater frog (and no spares). Had to cut the braid line with about 10 foot of line going to the gator... and the frog was what the bass were biting on that day... tried everything else and not another single bite.
Went back a few hours later and saw the frog still hanging out of the gators mouth... |

Once caught a full size Canadian Goose on a Ronco Pocket Fisherman. The park Ranger did not think it was as humorous as I did.

Move to FLA. You'll bag your share of non-fish too!

lol when I go for bluegill, I have caught various turtles (from small baby 2" long ones all the way up to 4 foot long beasts), southern pike (aka freshwater Chain Pickerel), otter, and even some small bird that kept swooping into the water after my bait, not sure what kind it was. There are times I swear it would be better to bring a .22 or shotgun than try catching bluegill lol
