Default Flouro question.

Simple question: Mono backing with flouro, yes or no?

To answer your question with a simple answer..........No. I use flourocarbon for almost everything I do, with the exception of topwater for which I use mono and then there are a few situations where I use braid. I have never used mono backing for flouro and I have never heard of anyone else using it either. Don't really see what it would hurt though. The only time I use backing is with braid so it won't slip on the spool when I set the hook and flourocarbon doesn't do this so I really don't see a need for backing either. Sorry for taking a simple answer and complicating it lol.

I use backing - cheaper than spooling with all f/c. You certainly don't have to, but I changed mine every month or so due to the memory factor, so I'm getting more milage out of a spool of f/c by using about half a spool of mono under it. I gave f/c a good try this year, used it on most of my casting reels - but next season I'm going back to my Yo-Zuri hybrid.

Yep. I use Berkley Big Game as backing and fill the rest with fluoro 75-100 yards per reel.

I agree 100%. I use backing mostly to save money on fluorocarbon.

Not to get off subject, but what FC are you using? I've had the same spool on Seaguar InvisX on one of my reels almost two seasons with no memory issues. It also gets the occasional (maybe once a month, less this year though) dose of KVD L&L.

Thanks guys!

I think I will do a third of mono then the rest FC. Just to save a little money.

John, thought I'd give a tip I simply fill the reel spool with mono then cast out with a 1/2-3/4 oz jig a good distance then strip another 10-15 yds from the spool then clip it.
