I got a little sick on Saturday due to allergies...I couldn't focus my eyes on rod work, and had a 30 dollar home depot card from my Bday...So I got some upgrades done on my work space that Ive been wanting to do for while to make working multiple rods a little easier.
The first thing I wanted to do was elevate my drying area off the table to keep it away from dust, etc while working other rods...Bought a Rubbermaid shelving unit (rated 50lbs) for around 21 bucks....Doing this also makes putting rods in the chuck easier because I can stand and not lean over my jig. I was also able to move it further back...Now I can dry rods up to 8-8 1/2' finally.. ![]() The next thing was to make an automatic epoxy mixer..I had an extra 9rpm motor I bought as a back up. Before I would just flip my drying motor over, attach my home made chuck and auto mix it that way...It works fine, but adds a lot of unnecessary steps..Plus I bought a new chuck for the drying motor,so it was even more of a pain. 8 bucks later at Home depot,I bought a lamp cord with an on/off switch...A 4'' wide L bracket...Two machine nuts......Bent the bracket by hand (like a real man) drill an extra hole...Wired up the cord...and bam!...Auto mixer!..It took me all of 10 minutes to make and the wide L bracket doesn't require a stand under it. ![]() I also ran into a fabric store and bought a spool stand to hold the thread..Before I kept them in a large rubbermaid tub....Which was always a tangled mess. Later on Ill add another dryer and probably more shelving....But for now this should makes things a whole lot easier, and maybe help the next guy in setting up a rod room. ![]()

Pretty sweet Pancake. I like the shelving and the thread holder. Just an off the wall question, any suggestion for matching John Deere green and yellow? I know what I see on the net, but they can be different when they come out of the box.
I need one of those banners hahahaha.

Looks good man! The mixer looks great, I like those wall hooks too. One thing I would caution is making sure to keep the room vacuumed and dusted. Dusty thread wouldn't be a good thing, I keep mine in their little bags for that reason.
Do you have another dryer motor for your wrapper? You need a DTC banner Bubba?

Thanks guys...Im really happy with the setup so far.
Yea Joe that's why I kept my thread in the sealed rubbermaid container before....But this room has very little air movement, plus I have that little fan I converted into a dust collector that I run constantly..So far Ive never had an issue with dust on thread or wet rods....I thought about making a cover for the thread holder just to be extra safe since Kaci uses the other half of the room as her hair salon....Which should be a nightmare for me,but never a problem?...Which is great!haha! No that's the only dryer I run for now....Ive always had the dryer as a separate unit so I could plug a rod in to dry and still have my wrapper free for another rod to work on. Bubba I have no clue what colors would work 'best' for a John Deer rod...As you said, when you order off the net..The colors are almost always a shade or two different. Madeira seems to be somewhat consistent though. Someone on RB can probably help ya out way more than I could.... I have Madeira 1651 and 1735..Which I think is their basic green and yellow which looks really nice and rich to me?...If it was my rod,Id probably just run those honestly.

Looks good. Keeping things neat and organized seems like work at first, but it sure makes most activities more enjoyable in the long run.
