I bought a Daiwa Goldcast 120 spincast reel for my wife last year and I'm wondering if anyone has tried using braid on a spincast reel and whether it would work ok?

I see no reason it wouldn't work fine, as a spincast reel is basically a spinning reel with a cap on it, fished upside down.

Keith, I'm using the Cortland Braid 30# on a Quantum Escalade 20 spinner, and it seems to work quite well for me. At least it casts well, although I have not caught any sizeable Bass on this particular setup so far. I always use a leader with braid, so I'm going to have to see how well the line to line knot holds.

Tried it awhile back with a Daiwa underspin for my god daughter... used fireline with mixed results. then again it could have been operator error... she was 4 at the time. I think it will probably depend on your braid / reel choice.

I wonder if braid will wear out the line guide hole on the front of the reel. I would say it would be a good match for a spincast because it comes off the spool so easily without a lot of line twist.

I donīt think that the line pick up in that reel is going to stand a long time the wear cause by the line rubbing against it.

Keith, if it were a zebco 202 or even a 33 I would have my doubts, but it should work ok on the Diawa.

This is a good point but I don't think it will be an issue. My wife gets out with me maybe 3-4 times a year at most for about 6 hours a shot. Since this is her setup, I'm fairly confident she won't be wearing out the pickup pin.

Keith, that is an interesting question and I have no clue if it will work or not. I have my doubts because of the nature of a spincast reel and the way it picks up/lets out line but like most things in fishing there is only one way to find out
