There was a very similiar post a month or so here about if you could only have ONE rod. It has popped up on another board, and while I shiver at the thought of only owning one rod, I thought about it and this is what I said:

One rod - are you CRAZY? That's a nightmare, but if I could only have one - it would not be an off the rack rod that anyone could have. It would be special and mine only. A custon rod, on a very good blank - maybe the new NRX by Loomis - 7' MH/fast. I'd want zircon guides and some killer wraps for some bling. Some exceptional cork in a split grip and a skeletonized reel seat, NO foregrip. Tiger wrap on the handle, name in GOLD. And I know who I'd have built it. I'd stick with the reel I normally use, a Pflueger Patriarch XT.

So pal, how much will one of these cost me? As a charter member of the "I'd buy anything club", I need something NFE DOESN'T HAVE.

Since Loomis isn't selling blanks anymore, start off at $450 for the factory rod to be torn down!

I would look hard at the St. Croix SCV line of blanks. These blanks are pretty expensive but use the new nano resin system. They should meet or surpass the NRX blanks used by Loomis. You could also check out North Fork Composites' HM series, their top of the line blanks.

You know of anyone you carries them with out the forest green and blue green finishes??

Seriously though, I'd check out the North Fork Composite's HM blanks. Or possibly the new blanks Phenix is building their new $450 rods on. I think the blanks are supposed to sell for $225

I'm sure the blanks are great, but to pay $450 for the factory rod, then pay to have it taken apart, then rebuilt custom is just nuts...

Seriously though, I'd check out the North Fork Composite's HM blanks

If I had one built I think I'd go with one of the North Fork blanks. It's a Gary Loomis blank not a Shimano Loomis blank, I'd have much greater confidence in the former. But I couldn't find any prices on the HM on the website. Did find the SM and IM. IM is the mid-level blank and "a bit more duralbe" than the HM which is their premium blank. The HM is lighter, but agian, didn't find any prices for those blanks.

They don't have many HM bass blanks. I see a couple in mag bass and a flipping blank. You can still get some Loomis blanks but if I were spending the money, I would go NFC over Loomis.
