I caught that show the first time around with a lot of interest, since they were fishing practically within sight of where I normally launch! They were fishing ledges on Kentucky Lake and Jordan was letting it sink, then ripping it off the bottom and letting it flutter down again. I've done quite a bit of spoon fishing on Lake Erie, but it was always done vertically and I used a relatively inexpensive Hopkins Spoon. I can't bring myself to take an $8+ lure and let it hit bottom before popping it back up, especially when you could easily bury the hooks in a stump or brushpile/rockpile and losing the lure.

Spoons can be fished year round, but they really shine in cold water. I throw them at ice out and in the late fall. I get similar results in the same conditions fishing a lipless crank with a yo-yo retrieve.
