Default Pushing my thread wrapping..1st closed wrap.

I remember when I first started wrapping my first rod and found pictures of guys doing closed wraps. How amazed I was at the thread art they could do.
I honestly never thought I would try one or get close to trying one.
But while Im waiting on components to come in,I have a rod for myself Im working on,and well?....I had to try it to see if I could do it..I have the thread art book by Billy Vivona and talked back and fourth with him about understanding the instructions..The first two attempt were cut off due to wrapping out of pattern (the beauty of these if even your wrong,it still looks cool)

I think I finally got it....It only took about 10 hours.
I still got alot of thread packing to do,and I still got to do the tie offs at the ends. But Im pretty damn proud of this one.....

Thanks Cass!

Thanks Justin, funny enough this is called a ''spider'' wrap..There is variations of it to add a red diamond in the middle to make a black widow.

Holy Crap Walker! That thing is awesome! I can't wait to see it finished with epoxy.

I don't have the patience for adding the little accents to the guide wraps, so I'd never be able to accomplish one like this. You just wait until I can afford custom rods!

How many times did your wife have to wipe your forehead during this operation and bottles of advils were consumed for being cross eyed and getting head aches? That is truly awesome Pancake. You are definately going to a new level. How long before you start weaving?

And I thought the TIGER WRAP was something. If you want more practice y'know hone your skills (just a little, because I see very little room with that example for improvement) I'm willing to help you out. I mean, what else are BF.com friends for? TEN HOURS, man that is a lot of tideous work, thank goodness you enjoy doing it. I could send you a couple of my LTX rods, for you to practice on - I won't even charge ya can you imagine a brown, gold and black on these blanks. OMG, I believe there is something stirrin' down below, I've got to stop. Fantastic work Walker, and that really doesn't say enough.

Does that rod have any taper in the wrapped section? If so, that's even more impressive to have a closed wrap come out right.

haha,I didnt want to mess with the precise measuring of the taper on a buttwrap..Thats why this one was done near the butt of the blank for the split grip...The taper is minimal at best,so I thought it would be more user friendly...But you can still see the black thread stacking on the left side of the first pic.Thats cut off now,and the rear grip will cover it...The next one I will make more precise measurements and mark them better.

The other cool thing I considered was not closing it....Even unclosed, they look really, really, pretty, imo.
