Well I think ill finally have time to do some fishing this Saturday. So I checked the weather and it looks like it will be about 60 all week but Saturday, the day I want to go fishing, it will drop into the 40s.
The lake ill be fishing is a small reservoir about a mile long and not very wide. It is probably 20 feet deep at its deepest point. there is lots of cover along the banks and one major river channel running the entire length. Ill be fishing out of a jon boat with no electronics so the channel is hard to find. The dam at one end is lined with rocks and shallow. It will be my first time using my new Nelson rod so I will be throwing a lot of shallow cranks and jerkbaits. And also maybe a swim jig and spinnerbaits. I have never really payed much attention to weather patterns, something I hope to change over this season. (I'm starting a log book to help) but any suggestions on what to throw and where to focus would be a lot of help. Thanks |

If it's just a one day drop in the air temp I can't imagine that will have too much effect on the fish. If the temp drop is also combined with clear bright sunny skys, that could be an issue. Otherwise what your planning to do sounds ok by me.

Ya the Weatherman said (not that their always right) Saturday is going to be clear sky's just cold. Luckily its a small enough lake I should be able to try a bunch of different stuff throughout the day.

Sounds like post cold front conditions then. Thats always tough. A slower and lighter/smaller presentation often fits the bill here. I've done fairly well in those conditions fishing short plastic worms, say 5-7 inches in various ways, slow worked in and around deeper weedbeds. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. If nothing else it will be good to try my new rod and just get out on the water.

Well the weatherman was wrong the weather was decent today so I drove out to the lake and I was met with this
![]() The lake is about a mile up that road and no way my two wheel drive truck could possibly make it.....So I decided to go to a different lake and when I got there it was still half frozen. So I didnt put the boat in, but I did pull out my Custom Nelson rod to at least see how it felt and it was perfect. I could feel every little time my bait nicked the littlest thing. very glad I got this rod, although now no other rod will be as good. |
