Powerbaits?
anyone ever use these berkely powerbaits (dough) for trout fishing? i cant for the life of me keep them on the hook. used a trebble hook & it stayed on much better but then had to leave right after due to heavy winds

After you put it on the hook, don't cast it! Drop it in the water in front of you for 15-20 seconds. It will harden and won't come of your hook when you do cast it.

i tried that & it still comes off. it either gets stuck in some weeds or scrape the sandy bottom while reeling in. just about ready to give up on this bait.

Can you judge the depth of the water and then use a cork or boober accordingly?

Bolson,
How are you putting it on the hook? For me, I will usually roll it into a small ball (Just slightly larger than what I put on the hook) and then push the hook into the doughball. I always use it on a trebble and never have the issues you are explaining. IN fact, I have a hard time getting it off the hook to change colors.

You are using just powerbait?
I always use a weight with the rig. I prefer a water bobber. http://images.townnews.com/theindepe...8253193156.jpg This gives the bait a slow fall. If I don't have that, then I wil use a lead weight. The key is to keep the bait near the bottom. I like to have a leader that puts it just above the weedline.

I was using led weights but wasn't sure what the typical trout set up is. Some of the locals were using spoons with the feathered trebbles. Would this be a good option? That's a nice bobber set up cass. What brand bobber is that?

I really don't know the brand. I buy them at walmart. They can be filled with water to allow a slow sink rather than the fast sink that lead gives you.
Spoons work great for trout. My personal choice is a kastmaster.

Bama I was referring to the dough type powerbaits, u know theone that looks like playdo in neon colors? That's what locals were using for trout and were having good results. I've actually never tried that power worm before since I use real nightcrawlers often. Will jabe to try them |
