New Build - Castaway 823 - Micro
Well, stick a fork in it, this one is done. This was built on a Castaway 823 6'10" (Cut down to 6'6") for a small topwater rod. The colors are meant to follow a buddy's motorcycle preference (Hint Hint). The rod balances about 1" in front of the reel (I used a Curado). I went with Fuji guides on the rod with a 5mm low guide, (1)#4, and finished out with #3s. This build went pretty smooth for me though and it cast as smooth as glass. That is the bad part about building a rod for people though, giving them up when you are done.

Looks great. Love the tiger wrap.
What is the silver in the middle of the foam grips? and how did you get it in there. Just so I can learn what type of fuji guides did you use and whats the intended line? |

MO3N, this rod is for a co-worker who lives on the Guadalupe River around San Antonio. He is not big in to bass fishing but trying to get started, but is a die-hard Harley fan. He saw one of my themed rods and told me what he wanted. I am going to recommend 10-12 mono for the type of top water he had intended it for (Pop-Rs, Tiny Topedos, and other small top waters).
Guides - Double Foot Fuji BLCAG - (1) 5J (I made a mistake on the micros, not Fuji) - American Tackle (1) 4mm; (7) 3mm The accents are from Lance Dupre at Swampland Tackle. The just slide on the tenons on the grips. He told me is working on getting some different colors too. Don't bother going on his website though if you want to order something, because the webpage is not going to have them.

I got my new scale in yesterday, so I had to unpack this baby and see how much she weighed. I gotta say, I was pretty wow'd when it came in at 3.8 oz. Not quite as light as a Phenix I held a few weeks ago, but one more reason to stay out of the gym.

Nice looking build ya got there buddy. I really wanna get a micro rod! Maybe if I scrounge up enough cash I'll get one of my rods torn down and put micros on it.

Bama, the installation cost is not the problem my friend, it is the S & H. It will cost you roughly $25-30 (w/insurance) just one way. And changing to micros would require different placement of the guides than the standard since they are lower to the rod. Then you could have a few ugly marks from the old guides if they were blemished on the blank. But fish don't see ugly until they are out of the water now do they.

shipping WOULD be a problem since oyu are on the other side of the world bubba, lol. i see oyur point to the other things too. but like you said, fish can't see the rod most of the time, and only people who may care is the owner. we'll see in the future.
