I see the clear baits advertised on the top of the board. I remember using a clear tiny torpedo several years ago and wearing some fish out with it. But what application does clear come in to play? I remember fishing them in river lakes, so I know the water had to have tinge to it. Anybody else use them?

Clear topwater baits are killer for smallmouth in gin clear water of the upper Delaware river in mid summer thru fall. I have also had sucess with a another topwater prop bait made by heddon, with a prop at either end, I forget the name of the lure

I use the clear the baits when the sun is bright and the water is not too choppy. I keep the bait moving without any pauses. It has been quite effective when the hydrilla is near the surface.

I've heard of people drilling a hole in the top of clear topwater baits and filling them with mineral oil and glitter to create a unique effect. You use glue to plug the hole and I imagine you don't fill them all the way up or they would sink.

Might drill it and fill it with a metallic thread, like a pearl or something. Might be on to something.

I like clear spooks in clear water or any where the fish are a little spooky or are eating small fry. I think it provides good sound and dosent give them much to get a good look at. A white feather tail seems to help also, but I don't use them on anything else.

They seem to be coming back in vogue too or maybe never left. I remember Brent Ehrler and Ish Monroe using them on Lake Ouachita in last years FLW event. Ehrler won that one and the topwater bite was a big part in that.

![]() I really like the idea of filling the baits with oil and glitter. I bet that would be a useful tip on Table Rock. |

I get some guys ordering clear soft plastics usually with just some silver holographic flake. I never tried it but guess it must work...

I could see them doing well in clear water. A clear bait with some shimmer to it as it moved through the water.
