Default Bad reel?

I bought another Curado 200E7 from TW last week. I put it on a 7' MH Crucial and spooled it with 15lb. Floroclear. I finally had a chance to take it out last night and man was I disappointed. It wasn't smooth at all, couldn't cast more than about 20 feet and the retrieve was choppy as all get out. Here is the question. When I got it I pulled it out of the box and opened the side to adjust the breaks. When I did the spool came sliding out the side. Is that supposed to happen? It had been sitting in a boiling hot UPS truck for a few days so I cleaned and re-oiled it and put it back together. This morning I took some line off the spool, thinking maybe I put too much on. Any ideas? Time to send it back?

Thanks for the help in advance.

The spool slips out of them pretty easy. Alot of times they pack a lot of grease in new reels and they need cleaning before they ever get used. I spool mine as high as I can though, so I wouldn't really think that is the problem. So of the more reel oriented guys will probably chime in for some more helpful suggestions though.

If all else fails, TW usually has a really great return policy. I would just return it and get another one.

It probably just has way to much grease in it. Some grease has probably gotten on the spool sfat and pinion area and thats like a dragging brake. This is very common with shimano reels and many of them need a good cleaning and tuning to reach the maximum potential.

Kevin I may be sending you both my curados this winter for a good cleaning and a tune. The first one I got was awesome right out of the box. This one is the complete opposite. Starting to wish I would have gone with another revo sx. lol

You can get a revo that has the same problem, but I have heard of it being more common with shimano's. I had an E 7 a few weeks ago that was brand new in the box.It was so sluggish that I thought soemthing had to be broken inside. Nothing was broken, it just was packed with grease. I couldn't get the spool to fee spin more than one second. After it was cleaned and tuned it had a 30 second free spin.

Good to hear! I can't cast a 3/8 buzz bait more than 20 feet. I was getting so pissed off last night it spent the rest of the time in the bottom of the boat.
