Last night after work my son and I wanted to try a local lake that I really haven't fished much. We mostly fish the river system. This is a small to Medium Lake called Bass Lake. The depths run to a little over 70'. They have a nice boat landing, which is a pleasure to load and unload your boat. We started out looking for some flats with a decent drop. We put on a Venom Finese Tube bait in Junebug. With in minutes the bite was on. In about a hour we landed 11 bass, both Large and Smallmouth. Average bass was over two pounds. I had a largemouth that weighed 7 3/4 Lbs. This was amazing. It was one of those days that you dream about. The weather was warm with cloud cover. Storms were coming in so that we needed to keep our eyes on the horizon.
These baits are awesome. We use the tube jigs with the exposed hooks running out the back of the tube. I've always had good luck with these Salted Venom tubes with Trigger X scent. If you haven't used these tubes, please do. I always get a good bite going with them. We just let them drop to the bottom, lift the tube up and drop it a few times and work it back slow. The bump, bump comes at any stage of the return. I've had more luck with this brand than any other tube. Just deadly. The brand is harder to find but is starting to appear here and there. Walmart got in a shipment to my surprise. These are much better than the Strike King coffee Tube.I don't remember what the brand of Tube jigs I used as I took them out of the package last year. I think they were 1/8 and 1/4 weights with a long shank worm hook. You slip them in the tube and pop the eye out the top of the tube as usual. The fish hook shank is long enough to come out into the tubes skirting and to leave plenty of hook. Excellent jigs. I'll update and let you know the brand. They are that note worthy. If I can get another night or two like last night, I'd be a happy man. Dave |

What a great night! I'm trying to plan a trip to the U.P. later this week. I don't know how far over the bridge I'll go just because of time. Is that the one over north of Manistique Lake?

Bass Lake is on the boarder of WI and MI in Iron Mountain. The close WI town is Spread Eagle and Florence. I'll have to get another evening with a storm that's three hours or so off. You have days when everything is just right and this was one of them. Yes 3dkicker, that looks just like the jig I was using. I wish I kept the packaging. I just put them in a 3600 box. What a combination though.
