Personally, I would try a 4in senko in natural colors with 6lb fluoro around all the cover and try a beetle spin on the weedline. Youd be amazing what simple lures can do in a pond. Good luck!!!

I would stick with that stuff and dont be afraid to try everything in ur tackle box to find out what they want. I would also try Zoom U-Tale and Trick Worms in natural colors.

How big of a pond? Man mad or natural? What kinda cover? Any structure (points, ledges etc.)? Does it hold some decent bass? What's the predominate bait fish (shad, bream etc.)?
To me, weeds and wood call for a tandem blade spinnerbait in early fall before the water gets to cold. 3/8 or 1/4 with 4, and 4 1/2 size blades. No mater what body of water, they're looking to fatten up before the water cold for the winter, and a double willow spinnerbait does a good job of looking like a big meal. ![]() A 5, or 6 inch senko should also produce. Once the water gets cold (50's), I think it's time to really start slowing down. They still looking for a decent meal, they're just not a willing to chase for it. A bulky jig with a PORK trailer is awesome, IMO 1/4 is all you'll need in water less then 10 foot. A nice slow fall is the key. ![]() When the water temp gets into the 40's. A Float n fly, and a little 3 - 4 inch worm should do well. Nothing with much action, everything is lethargic and slow moving when the water's real cold, food included. Hope this helps.. Need more info before I go into much detail.

jeez, i am not 100% but i think it is 5 acres, not sure, if man made, probably is, there is a tiny creek running inot it and at the other end there are pipes that filer into a river, has a pvc pipe in the corner churning water, i talked to the owner and if it is man made it was from way back, she said when they bought the property they put a filter system stocked it and so on, she said the ocasionaly stock it, but as i as right this the gills and brem are on one there beds.and there is little cats and what appears t be baby bass swimming around) so i guess that it is big enough to spawn in. not sure the exact baitfish, but as said gills and brim are for sure. i beleive the rarely throw food out. and there are alot of pissed fishermen throwing there nightcrawlers in i mean ALOT of nightcrawlers go in that water. need to get me some spinners baits., i know there is an abundence of leopard frogs and few rock for crawfish. i have thrown my spro in many times, and watch the gills attack it on there bed and seem to move it off, but no bass on the frog.

You don't necessarily have to slow down, unless you're talking late fall, like late November and beyond. It also depends on where you live. Here in western NY I've had good luck with horizontal baits like crankbaits, spinners, etc. When temperatures get below 55° or so, then try slowing down if faster methods no longer produce.

Fall fishing for me comes down to spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Both of those lures seem to out produce any others in my area durring the fall. And I tend to fish larger sized baits. Those bass are looking to fatten up before the winter freeze up here. Also, the baitfish have grown by fall so a larger bait looks natural. One of my best days on the water last year came shortly before ice up, and it came on a 3/8oz spinnerbait. Even when the water is very cold here, the fish can still be quite aggressive. They may not chase a bait down when the water is below 50 degrees, but they will still whack it hard and fight hard. Larger crankbaits that dive to around 6-10 feet are definately part of my fall bassin. Fished around the edges of weedbeds and over the tops, the bass will kill a crankbait in the fall. The real secret in fall fishing is to find weedbeds that are still green and healthy. Weed beds that are dying and turning brown I have found rarely offer any decent fishing. Lastly, one thing I will add is to keep working that shallow water regardless of how cold it gets. Especially if you have a brief warmup. I have caught many many bass in shallow water around brush and lilly pad fields while the snow fluries were whisping by. Lilly pad fields, whats left of them for some reason really attract big bass here in late fall. I think it could be that because so much other vegitation that was in the lake is no longer available by then as it has died back. Also, lilly pads often grow in dark muddy soil which warms faster in the sunlight.

Ive had the same thing happen. While fishing Clarks Hill lake I caught 125 fish over three days and went back the next day and caught 6. Sometimes changes baro pressure can affect the bite. And itll take around 3 or 4 days for a bass to recooperate and start eating again.

Hey WW Lots of good tips in this thread..especially the references to water temp. All I can add to this is that one of my favorite and most consistant methods in water temps from53-63 is using a Rapala (#5-7-9-+) as a twitch bait... and i mean twitch it HARD!!> Vary your cadence and pause time until you figure out the trigger and HOLD ON!! I have caught some huge fall bass doing this for 30 yrs. Try it.

Try a lipless crank at the start, alot of fish are feeding up for winter. Water temp. will help decide fast or slow presentation. Later, slower. Sorry, later in the fall season as water gets colder and colder, fish slower and slower. Not an expert just my opinion! Depends on how the pond is feed. If spring fed water will usually be alot cooler than lakes and rivers otherwise basically the same.
