Clothes pin spinner baits - line connection

There are two types of connecting points on these lures; a closed eyelet and one that's open on the side closest to the hook.

Q1) What are the names of these styles?
Q2) What's the purpose of each?
Q3) Exactly how are they tied to a line?

The wire with the bend that's semi open is call an R Eye or R Bend. The closed line tie is called a Loop eye. I can't tell you exactly why each is offered. But I have a couple ideas. I believe the R Bend eye offers a bit more vibration from the blades. The one drawback from the R bend is that the knot can slide up the line from time to time. The Loop line tie eye is often used with larger spinnerbaits, especially musky size spinnerbaits. I think the loop eye for that size spinnerbait offers a stronger bait overall with larger preditor fish like a musky or large northern. Also, obviously the knot is not going anywhere with the loop eye. And with any spinnerbait, I prefer to use the polymar knot.

I think the r bend also is a tad more weedless.

Another thing about the loop eye line tie is that if someone is fishing for a toothy critter like a pike or musky, the loop tie allows the angler to atttach the spinnerbait to a wire leader snap.
